Hello, boaters!

It's November, and the cooler days are here. With the chill in the air comes the switch from margaritas and pinots to hot toddies and brandy. This means that you're probably relaxing at the dock a little more often and enjoying the remarkably beautiful sunsets we enjoy so much during this time of year. The holiday season is officially upon us so get in gear for the best time of the year.

Get ready for the Harbour Stroll!
December 14th and 15th

This year will mark the 16th annual Windmill Harbour Stroll! We would like to encourage all boat owners to participate in the Stroll by decorating your boats to show your holiday spirit!! On Sunday, Dec. 15th, the SCYC will hold an awards ceremony. Prizes will be awarded to boats featuring the best display, so get out there and start decorating!

Be sure to register with Dori at the SCYC (843-681-4844). Decorating must be completed by 11pm on Friday, Dec. 13th so the judges have time to review the entries. If you would like to eat a fabulous dinner at the SCYC before or after strolling, please make a reservation now as they are limited to 250 each night. Non-members of the club who register for the decorating contest may attend with prior reservations. For non-member reservations, please call Jessa Burt at 843-681-4844 ext. 229 and please indicate that you are a Windmill Harbour boater and paying by cash or credit card.

Getting your boat ready for winter
Winter is one of my favorite seasons for boating. Its a time when you can relax on the water while watching migratory shorebirds or fishing for sheepshead, and best of all, sometimes you feel like you have the waterways to yourself. While we are located in a typically mild winter area and are lucky enough to be able to enjoy boating year around, we would like to remind boat owners to take precautions if not using your boat for extended periods of time during the winter season. Though completely winterizing may not be necessary in the south, you can still take this season to make sure your vessel is in ship shape. Click on the websites below to get a few tips on winterizing your boat. Just remember to take the forecasters seriously, as it can take just one freezing cold spell to do expensive damage.
