Newsletter -
August 2015

Welcome to our August newsletter, we are busy welcoming thousands of children to join in with the Summer Reading Challenge - if you haven't signed up yet, come along and take part in Record Breakers. We also have a focus on some of the events that regularly happen in our libraries, and the latest news on the Curve - opening in December!
Library events
We run and host a huge number of events every month, from music times where children and toddlers can have fun with rhymes and stories to advice sessions to help you stop smoking. The best way of finding out what's going on is to visit the events page on our website or follow us on Twitter. We look forward to welcoming you to an event soon - here's what's going on in August.
Summer Reading Challenge 2015 - Record Breakers!
Already over 1000 children have signed up to the challenge of reading 6 books over the summer - the reading challenge runs across the whole UK and is a brilliant way of keeping children reading over the summer - research has showed that children who remain engaged with reading over the holidays make a better start back at school in September - and everyone loves stickers, right?
The Curve : Slough's new library and space :
opening December 2015

Artists impression of new Curve building
If you've been through the middle of Slough recently, you'll have seen that the huge new building on the A4 crossroads is really taking shape, we are really excited about moving into this space and will be opening in late December. As well as lots of books, there are also learning spaces, computers, wifi, a performance space, a cafe, and garden and lots more to make this the central place to go in Slough. You can see all the information about the Curve here. We are looking forward to welcoming you.

Reading ideas
Reading Ideas this month
New library pages - We have improved our catalogue, and there are loads more suggested reading ideas on there, including reading suggestions once you have logged into your account - you can login to the new library account page here - if you had the old page favourited you will need to update the link - we hope you like the new pages.
Book awards seem to spring up every day  -they are a a great way to come across titles you might otherwise miss - the best list is at the lovereading site - see what takes your fancy and then check our catalogue here to order them.
Newspapers from around the world
You can view newspapers and magazines from round the world, live, as they are printed using PressDisplay. Seeing newspaper front pages as they are designed and being up to date at all times is a great service, and can help you keep in touch with news from back home or read about global perspectives on news and events. It also means you can read and search for resources 24/7.
Link of the month...
We are getting very excited about the new Patrick Ness book  which is due in October - we know how it starts :

On the day we're the last people to see indie kid Finn alive, we're all sprawled together in The Field, talking about love and stomachs.

...but we don't know how it ends - some clues here though  - why not read some other Mr Ness books in the meantime!
