This is a historic time for the world on migration. We've watched in horror as millions flee their homes, often risking everything to find safety. We've been heartbroken by the loss of life.

Last Saturday we were cheered as tens of thousands marched in cities across Europe to show solidarity with refugees, rallying and in support of the basic rights of security and human dignity.

In the U.S. we take some pride in our record of resettling more refugees in our borders (about 70,000 annually) than all other countries combined. And President Obama has proposed accepting additional Syrian refugees as civilians continue trying to escape the fighting there.

 

About 30 of every 1,000 refugees that the U.N. resettles anywhere in the world comes to Houston - more than any other American city and more than most nations - as a recent article in the Houston Chronicle describes.

 

Let's show Houston's welcoming spirit! Let's express our belief that refugees and other immigrants make our community stronger.
