Senator Robert C. (Bob) Krueger has had a long and distinguished career in public service and higher education. A native Texan, Senator Krueger served as a U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator, U.S. Ambassador and Texas Railroad Commissioner. In 1994, he was appointed Ambassador to Burundi, where he hoped to advance democratic interests in the country. Arriving at his post during the height of the violence in neighboring Rwanda, he drew international attention to the genocide unfolding there and the parallel violence in Burundi, working to minimize the killing and preserve democracy. With his wife Kathleen, Senator Krueger wrote From Bloodshed to Hope in Burundi: Our Embassy Years during Genocidea compelling eyewitness account of their time in the country during that harrowing period.

We are excited for Senator Krueger to join us at our luncheon on Thursday, May 28, 2015, where you can hear his personal reflections on the events he witnessed that shed further light on the refugee experience.
