PAIR is ready!

100s of students from around the world  + programs   Houston neighborhoods!

You may be enjoying the last lazy days of summer, but at PAIR we're busy making sure programs are ready to launch when students return to school. This year, new programs join alongside continuing ones and more young refugees will participate in PAIR's supportive programs than ever before.

Please consider becoming a volunteer in one of our programs. You can welcome a newcomer to our community in just two hours once a week for a year: that's how long it takes to change a life!

Program Offerings

Global Explorers

Refugee newcomers (in the U.S. less than two years) from around the world and their mentor matches will meet on Saturday afternoons at Neighborhood Centers Inc. Baker-Ripley campus in Gulfton. Activities help them adjust to life and education in the U.S. and introduce them to their new home in the Lone Star State through field trips.

Global Learners at Las Americas Middle School &

Global Learners at Fondren Middle School

Young refugees and mentors meet twice a week after school. In small groups they join in activities that help them increase English skills, build social and emotional abilities, and develop educational aspirations and school engagement.

④ Global Leaders at Westbury High School &

Global Leaders at Lee High School

Refugee youth in high school participate in Global Leaders after school twice a week at Westbury and once a week at Lee. In the program, mentors assist youth in small groups as they explore opportunities for their future and develop the leadership and other skills necessary to attain higher education and employment. Students who cannot attend the program and those who need extra support will meet one morning each week with an individual mentor in a pilot program at Westbury.

⑥ Global Learners-Leaders In Ranchester

Many young refugees from Myanmar (Burma) are working hard to make up gaps in their education and chart a course for a productive future in the Ranchester neighborhood of Alief. These youth will be part of PAIR's pilot in the neighborhood connecting students with mentors who are guides, role models, and tutors.
