HOLIDAY SHOW

Featuring a wall of BIG LITTLE PAINTINGS.
Twelve 6" x 8" paintings with big concepts on a small scale.

"You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen."
-Earnest Hemingway A Moveable Feast

Actually, I love fall. I think it is my favorite season. An impatient winter is drumming its fingers on my window as an early snow storm rolls in. The autumn leaves are mostly gone and I have enjoyed a fine season of being in the mountains, immersed in the colors of golden aspens. I will miss the crisp air and sharp, clear light of a fall day when the air is cold and the sun is warm- a play of opposites creating a dynamic composition of atmosphere and sensation.

I will be opening my studio to the public in December for a Holiday Studio Show. If you find yourself in the area, stop by my Gardnerville studio to see new paintings, prints, and even postcards. I will be featuring a wall of
BIG LITTLE PAINTINGS- twelve 6" x 8" paintings with big concepts. These paintings are not sketches or rough field studies. They are finished paintings on a small scale- each created in layers over multiple sittings. They can be purchased from my studio or through my website. A few examples of these works are included below.

Thanks again for your interest in my art.

Classic California Oaks and Poppies.

Bodie Spring
6" x 8" Oil on Linen
Holiday Studio Show

I am fascinated and inspired by the ghost town of Bodie, CA.
The town stands in defiance of the harsh environment.

Bishop Fall
6" x 8" Oil on Linen
Holiday Studio Show

This view from the valley outside Bishop, CA, looking up to Mt. Humphreys has been on my mind for several years. I tried to show the grand, looming power of the Sierra on a small scale.

Winter Sunrise
6" x 8" Oil on Linen
Holiday Studio Show

The first light of a winter sunrise hitting Jobs Peak and the Eastern Sierra
as seen from Carson Valley, NV, near my home.

Sierra Creek
6" x 8" Oil on Linen
Holiday Studio Show

This painting of fall's abstraction along a Sierra stream was inspired by a painting from my grandfather,
William F. Muench. He painted only for the pleasure of creating and I am
lucky to have a few of his paintings in my collection.
