"The raccoon walked past in a leisurely manner, carefully moving to his staging area in anticipation of his evening plunder. I sat unnoticed, on a steep hillside in the shadows of a leaning oak tree above the Lower Arroyo, watching the changing light on the Colorado Street Bridge. A nuanced moment of time between afternoon light and twilight hit my senses and I saw a painting. "Pasadena Spring" had its inception in this moment. This is only one example of how my paintings for this body of work were inspired. In searching for paintings, grasping at the stream of experience will leave you with nothing but empty fists. Taking the time to use cupped hands to draw the water of true inspiration is the best method. These painting are the result of this contemplation."

In the spaces between shows, auctions, and events, paintings are created. Winter is a busy time for me in the studio, developing ideas and studies from my travels into larger canvases. Now, spring taps at my studio window and invites me out for a walk. The cool air from the Sierra mixes with the vernal scents of fresh budding trees and sage. Time to get out of the studio and back to the source of inspiration, Nature.
