Winter 2014

10" x 12" Oil on Linen

"I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape, - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show."

-Andrew Wyeth

According to the weather reports, a winter storm is moving- a very welcome storm! I hope it hangs around for a while and maybe invites a few friends. The bitter cold mornings of December and January without the accompanying visual delight of snow is, to quote Tom Waits, "thorns without the rose." I managed to get out in early December and create studies from that first, fine snowstorm.

This is the time of year when I am chained to my easel, working on paintings for upcoming shows. I enjoy this total immersion in canvas and pigment. It is a time for the concepts and inspirations of my travels to reach full expression.

Thank you for your continued interest in my art!

Oil on Linen
For several years, I have been interested in finding a view of the dramatic Sawtooth Range out of Bridgeport, CA. Last spring, I found an old mining road and hiked well past the mine, up 2,400ft in elevation gain, to finally discover my view.

Evidence of others who were also looking for something at this remote location.
