Greetings!
"What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness."
- John Steinbeck
Enveloped in the summer heat, I do look forward to distant snow.
I am honored to be a gallery artist at the Stremmel Gallery in Reno, NV. The Stremmel Gallery has been a quiet force in the contemporary art world over the last four decades. They are great folks and I look forward to them representing my art for a long time!
I am preparing to ship my paintings to the:
Many of the nation's top artists participate in this show and I am fortunate to have been exhibiting since its inception in 1999. A significant part of this show is the camaraderie shared by artists as we paint together and explore new locations. "From Here to There- Burr Trail" is a result of these explorations. I was first inspired by the potential of this view while painting around Boulder, UT, with fellow artists during the Dixon Country Show in 2012. I drove the 60 mile round trip from Boulder to the rim of the Burr Trail three times during my stay. Haze from distant fires and heavy rains prevented me from seeing the right light I needed to form the experience into paint. I returned in April of 2013 and after two more runs down that dirt road and several juniper gnat covered sketches, I felt I had enough information to express my emotions. The concept of open space, vast expanses of land that can be explored at will, is often taken for granted here in the west. There is a reason why so many travelers from Europe flock to our National Parks or lonesome places like Lone Pine, CA. I am still enraptured by these expanses. On first encountering this view, I realized I was in a unique place- standing on the Escalante Staircase National Monument, looking across the remote parts of Capital Reef National Park, and seeing the silhouette of the distant snow capped Henry Mountains- perhaps the best Mule Deer country in the world. So much land to take in from here to there.
Thank you for your continued interest in my art!

The Gothic shape of Banner Peak from Garnet Lake in the Sierra backcountry has long been a source of fascination. You can see Banner looming in the distance even from
Highway 395 near June Lake. It truly is a force to be reckoned with.
