32" x 30" Oil on Linen
Galerie Gabrie, Pasadena, CA.

This painting was created from memories and studies of a back country painting trip in 2011. I was an amazing snow year and even though the calendar read September, the Sierra high country thought is was spring.
The Indian Paintbrush and other meadow wildflowers were in full bloom.
Unfortunately, so were the mosquitoes!!!

Greetings!

"Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it's been."

-Grateful Dead

With over 5000 miles of driving in April and May- painting in Utah, picking up custom frames for two major shows, delivering artwork, and attending receptions, it has been a long, strange trip! Many hours of quiet contemplation while traversing the long stretches of Nevada desert. I will write of these musings in a future newsletter. My annual one man show at Galerie Gabrie, Conversations with Nature, is still going strong. I was honored to be invited to be part of the prestigious Stremmel Gallery in Reno, NV, and am participating in their Paintings of the West Exhibition. I am truly amazed at having sold over 20 paintings between the two shows with both still in progress! In my article in the April issue of Southwest Art Magazine, I concluded by comparing the challenges of succeeding in a rough economy to four-wheeling along a muddy road,

"You have to gun the accelerator just to keep from sliding into the ditch, but once the road clears and the tires catch traction, I think it's going to get interesting!"

Yes, it most certainly is...

Thank you for your continued interest in my art!

Desert Rain on a Lonely Road

Expanse of open space off of highway 375, "The Extraterrestrial Highway."
I drive through this part of Nevada many times and the right mixture of summer rain clouds and light can create a drama unique to the high desert.

I discovered this view of endless open space in the Jarbidge Wilderness of
northeastern Nevada. So much to explore!!!

The New, the Old, and the Ancient
28" x 40" Oil on Linen
California Art Club's 102nd Annual Gold Medal Exhibition
Fisher Museum, Los Angeles, CA.

This view looking towards the Whitney Range from the sage expanses of Owens Valley was inspired by the vast, open space of the high plains desert contrasting with the gothic shapes of the eastern Sierra rising from the desert floor. Generations have come and gone, leaving trace imprints on the land.  Time passes in the shadows of these ancient cathedrals.
