Interest Plunged by £3.4bn in 2013
According to a recent article by This is Money, in 12 months the interest savers have earned in total from banks and building societies has dropped by a massive £3.4 billion - even though the amount they have in savings has risen.
They had £1.1 trillion held in banks and building society accounts in October, the latest Bank of England figures reveal, up from £1.06 trillion last year. But these savers earned just £15.8 billion in interest that month, down from £19.2 billion in the same month last year. Read the full article here.

Pension Annuities under Scrutiny
The BBC reports that some insurance companies and pension providers have been heavily criticised in a report on the sale of annuities to people when they retire.
The Financial Services Consumer Panel - which works alongside the financial watchdog, the FCA - says firms confuse customers and charge high commissions.
Retirees buy an annuity to provide an income from pension savings; some 400,000 are sold every year.
