The College's last day of operations at 163 Queen Street East will be Wednesday, May 28 at 5 p.m. Staff will not have access to email after this time to allow for an IT transfer, and old telephone numbers will be disconnected. Regular business hours resume on Monday, June 2 at 160 Bloor Street East.

The College has been privileged to be hosted and supported by HealthForce Ontario (HFO) and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) since 2009 as it established the foundations to become a regulatory college. Temporary office space was loaned to five transitional councils by MOHLTC as they worked toward proclamation. Now that the College is fully operational and staff levels have increased to ensure that its legislated mandate is fulfilled, it is time to settle into a permanent home.

The College would like to extend its sincere appreciation to HFO staff for their gracious support over the last several years.

Notice of Nomination and Election

On Tuesday, July 15 and Wednesday, July 16, 2014, members of the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario in the following electoral districts will participate in the election of Council members:

  • District 2- Eastern
  • District 3- Central East
  • District 4- Central (one member of three)

To see if you will participate in this election, click here

The College is seeking nominations from eligible members to run for Council. To view the eligibility criteria for election, click here. Members are permitted to nominate themselves. All nominations require the support of two members of the College, other than the candidate, who are eligible to vote in the candidate's electoral district. Members wishing to nominate others should first seek their permission since the nomination must be accepted and confirmed by that member.

The deadline for the College to receive a candidate's nomination package is Friday, May 30. The nomination period extends from Tuesday, May 6 to Friday, May 30. You must be a member of the College by noon on Thursday, May 29 to run as a candidate for election to Council. If you have not received an email with a link to your nomination ballot, please email Ryan Pestana.

As the College's governing body, Council ensures that the College achieves its mandate to regulate the profession of kinesiology in the public interest. The Council is composed of nine kinesiologists and one academic member who are elected by members of the College, and six to eight members of the public who are appointed by the Ontario government.

Serving your profession as a Council member is personally and professionally rewarding. If elected, you will serve a term of three years. Council members receive orientation and training prior to assuming their role, and education and professional development opportunities are provided throughout their term. Council usually meets four times per year for two days and notice of meetings is provided well in advance. Council members receive a per diem for each meeting attended, and they are reimbursed for reasonable travel, accommodation and meal expenses related to attending a meeting. Council members are expected to sit on at least one College committee and to attend committee meetings. To learn more about Council, click here. FAQs about elections can be found here.

To vote in the election, you must have paid all outstanding fees and be registered by noon on Friday, July 11 so that your name may be added to the voters' list.

If you have any questions about the 2014 election, please contact Ryan Pestana via email or at (416) 862 4795.

News from FSCO

In December 2013, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) announced that it would soon be licensing Ontario service providers and regulating their business and billing practices. FSCO will begin accepting licence applications on June 1, 2014 (originally May 1, 2014) and licences will be required on December 1, 2014 (originally November 1, 2014). To learn more, click here.

FSCO defines a service provider as a business that provides specified goods or services ("listed expenses") for which it submits an invoice through Health Claims for Auto Insurance (HCAI) for payment by an auto insurer. Typically, these are health and rehabilitation clinics, as well as providers of examinations and assessments. Businesses that wish to invoice through HCAI and be paid directly by auto insurers for listed expenses will need a licence from FSCO. This licence authorizes the service provider to receive direct payments from auto insurers for specific listed expenses.

Even though they are regulated by the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario, kinesiologists must apply for a licence if their business qualifies as a service provider.

FSCO's Service Providers e-Newsletters communicate important information about the new licensing requirements. These e-newsletters contain information on preparing for service provider licensing requirements and whether or not businesses require a service provider licence.
