2013 Regional Workouts Released
This year is the first year that there will not be any cuts made for the final day of competition. After looking at the programmed workouts, they may not need to make any. The pure brutality planned for day two may be enough to have a few athletes think twice about showing up for day three.
"Heavy" seemed to be the theme for the 2012 Regional workouts, and it appears "volume" takes the theme for 2013. The individual competitors will have a broad test of fitness including short and light, short and heavy, high skilled movements as well as their ability for their bodies to take a beating.
The team workouts this year include four events in which all team members will compete and three events utilizing one male and one female. Strategy and placement will be key in the team competition.
Team Event 1: Partner Jackie
1 male, 1 female
A CrossFit Classic. Short, light, fast. Goal is moderately fast pace on the row, as close to unbroken on the thrusters and do your best to hang on for the pull-ups.

Team Event 2 & 3: 3RM Overhead Squat & Burpee Muscle-ups
3 males, 3 females
Talk about testing two different ends on the spectrum of fitness. How well can you move heavy weight matched with how well can you move your own body? The females will have 7 minutes to find their 3 rep max of overhead squat while the men tackle a 7 minute AMRAP of burpee muscle ups. After the 7 minutes, they will switch roles.

Team Event 4: 30's Chipper
3 males, 3 females
This will be a "conga style" workout where the athletes will be following each other through the four movements. The three men will lead off and the three women will anchor. Placement is important with this one to maximize work and make sure the line keeps moving without any big backups.

Team Event 5: Deadlift/Box Jump
1 male, 1 female
This event showed up at Regionals in 2011 and proved to be a good test of strength, skill and lungs. Don't let the deadlifts trash your legs for the box jumps, but the box jumps can be a big boost in cutting off lots of time.

Team Event 6: 50's Chipper
1 male, 1 female
Workout six begins with some skilled body weight movements and ends with a test of pure strength after your body is already fatigued. This workout relies heavily on strategy for splitting up reps and strong communication.
