Progress Update:
Advocating for D202 Goals Related to the Progress, Targets and Measures for Students with Special Needs
|
I am happy to report that the D202 Board and Administration have agreed to adopt the language, "Readiness for College, Career and Independence" in their overall goals for students at ETHS.
This has particular importance for those students whose path to independence and success is different from mainstream students in terms of their pace and post- high school outcomes. CASE has formed a working committee to come up with language for the goals, targets and measures related to independence for students with special needs of all types. Please contact us if you have suggestions for us to review. Once we have developed our suggested language, we will share it with you. mail@evanstoncase.org.

Why Do Kids Have Tantrums and Meltdowns?
|
By Caroline Miller
Editorial Director CHILD MIND INSTITUTE
"It will come as no surprise to parents that the problem which brings the most young children to the attention of a psychologist or psychiatrist is emotional outbursts -- tantrums and meltdowns."
"Indeed, these episodes are among the biggest challenges of parenting. They're hard to understand, hard to prevent, and even harder to respond to effectively when they're happening. And when they occur with frequency past the age in which they're developmentally expected -- those terrible twos -- they can become a big problem for the child, not just the beleaguered adults who endure them."

Share resources, ask questions and express your concerns with others who "get it".
This online group supplements our in-person Parent Connections support group meetings. We have found that it is difficult for people to get to a meeting and we hope that this forum will be more accessible when you need it.
You may be asked to provide some basic identifying information (we will keep it confidential) to ensure that only parents/family members of children/teens in Evanston are accessing the group. Membership is growing quickly. Join the conversation.
