Attention CASE Members:
CASE has been contacted by many parents from Park School in the last several weeks. This is because an administrator from D202 presented a proposal that D202 pull out of their joint financial agreement with D65. So far this is just a proposal. Evidently, this idea is in line with D202's strategy to reduce the number of students in private out-placements due to increasing special education costs.
For those of you who don't know, Park School serves students with moderate to profound disabilities K through 22 years of age.
Since the 1970's, D65 and ETHS D202 have had a joint agreement to fund Park School with D65 contributing 60% and D202 contributing 40% of the cost.
The Park School Long Range Planning Committee has been exploring various scenarios whereby Districts 65 and 202 could make Park School more viable. If the proposed "pull out" is approved by the D202 School Board, it would derail that process and the school would become financially unsustainable. To be clear, this proposal has NOT gone before the D202 School Board yet.
In order to be proactive, I, along with a Park parent will be speaking at the D202 Board meeting tonight. If you are interested in attending, public comment is scheduled to be at 8:50.
We are hopeful that raising awareness will persuade D202 not to abandon Park, and to only consider options that would sustain Park. If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact CASE at 847-566-8676.
