Blind Faith? By : Curt Klingerman

2Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight (KJV). Our walking by faith and not by sight does not make faith blind. Faith knows where it is going because it receives direction from the One Who sees the ending from the beginning. People may be blind to faith because they refuse to listen to the Voice of God, for, "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17).

Granted, what most people mean when they say they are going on "blind faith" is that they are either trusting God in the circumstances they are in (which they do not understand), or do not know the end result of the direction they are going. Truthfully, that is hope. Meaning, God is their hope, and they will trust Him with what they do not see. That is a good thing!

Some will feel led to go a certain direction and will continue to do so for a long period of time. When they continue doing that same thing because they do not know what else to do, they will call that "blind faith." Actually, until God gives new direction, that is pure faith, since faith comes by hearing. It is obedience to what was heard. Part of walking by faith is staying the course until the Lord says differently, or the course is complete. It will seem like "blind faith" when we put time constraints on the direction given. When it appears that a particular direction will never end, trust God and know that faith knows where it is going, even if you do not.

Nonbelievers often make comments that infer "blind faith." For example, "You mean to tell me that you just follow blindly." We have all heard, "That's just blind faith!" Those who do not have the Spirit of God do not understand the things of God (see 1Corinthians 2:9-16). Therefore, they do not understand faith. The Word clearly says, "The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits" (Daniel 11:32, KJV). The reality is that if a person does not have a relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ and puts his faith in things other than God, he is the one with "blind faith." Simply put, those who are blind to the truth, walk by blind faith. This is especially true of those who choose to be so.

It could be said that if a believer does something on his own, with no direction from God. As some would say, "I'm stepping out on faith," that would be considered blind faith; otherwise, known as dead works.

Group Profile - Ask Jesus

This group is for all of us...who have questions...interests in the bible and what it tells us, teaches us, & shows us.

Why?

I field an ocean of biblical questions each week from GFB members...asking me what does Jesus say...what does the bible say...

And if i do not know the answer...((which is most of the time)) i do the very best thing there is to do...i do not guess...i begin to search the kjv holy bible for the answers.

Jesus never fails to answer any and all questions we may ever have about him & his word.

So if you have a question...create a discussion question...and i will take my time, and make sure i find and give you the where, the who, the how, and the whys of it.

It will be all Jesus and none of me!

So ask away!

Weekly Devotional - Active Word with Pastor Bob Coy

A study in separation - Jonah, part 2

But the LORD sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up. Jonah 1:4 (NKJV)

Jonah did his best to escape God's presence and His will for his life. He expended his energies and resources to drown out the voice calling him to Nineveh, and the Lord actually allowed him to run for a time. But then, just as Jonah started to relax and feel secure in his disobedience, God sent a storm.

We know what happens next. Jonah makes the connection between his disobedience and the peril he's put himself and his shipmates in. He tells them to throw him overboard, which they reluctantly do. And then the character that makes this such a unique and memorable story swims onto the scene:

Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. (Jonah 1:17 NKJV)

Jonah was finally alone. In fact, it's hard for us to fully fathom how alone Jonah was at this point. How can you get more alone than this? He was absolutely and utterly removed from all that was familiar and friendly. No people to talk to, no freedom to move about, no activities or responsibilities to distract him, no sights or sounds to occupy him, not even sunlight can find him here inside his host!

He was as alone as a human being can get. And it's here, in this utter aloneness, that Jonah finally turns to the only thing that is with him-the presence of the Lord:

Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish's belly. (Jonah 2:1 NKJV)

God wanted this. He wanted Jonah to go from being someone who had turned from Him and His will to being turned towards Him and His will. And in His infinite wisdom, He knew what it would take to produce this change in Jonah's heart...it took being completely alone.

Think About It...
What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
