Message From Richard

Greetings my brothers and sisters and welcome to our latest edition of Gods Faith Book's weekly newsletter.
It doesn't take long to discover that the Christian life is certainly not a continuous experience of fun and laughter.

And yet, we ought to be careful to acknowledge a serious problem when our Christian life deteriorates into a chronic series of joyless days and melancholy weeks. While we're obviously not exempt from severe loss and terrible pain, even then our grief ought to be tempered by an evident dose of optimism and confidence. Because of our secured relationship with God through Christ "we don't grieve as others do who have no hope" (1 Thessalonians 4:13). Even when facing the worst of potential outcomes we can expectantly say, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21).

This perspective needs to be more than an undetectable philosophy tucked somewhere in the back of our minds. Luke tells us that when Paul and Silas sat locked in stocks in a Philippians jail their hearts and their voices were found "singing hymns to God" (Acts 16:25). When you find that capacity lost because you've given yourself over to pessimism and despair, you need to remember Scripture's warning of discipline to those who do "not serve the Lord your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart" (Deuteronomy 28:47). No, not every day will be "a good one" but let us remember that our biggest problems were solved two thousand years ago and the happiness Christ has stored up for his disciples can never be taken away (1 Peter 1:3-9).

Let's all remember that we have joined here on GFB to help spread HIS WORD. GFB has evolved into a true community of friendship and fellowship. So no matter what your week looks like, serve and worship God today with optimism and joy.

If you haven't checked out our Sermon Room, please check it out today--we are once again posting weekly sermons.

We've also added new e books to our e book section. Take a look they're free to read and download for your reading enjoyment.

Our Poll question is about to change, but you still have another day to post your opinion. Current question is, how often do you read the Bible. As of this moment over 85% of your fellow members have stated they read the Bible all the time. Are you part of this group?

More information on the GFB dating site will be available next week.

The Two Wolves by Mick Alexander

"I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life." (Deu. 30:19)

Whenever someone repents and accepts Jesus as Lord of their life, the Holy Spirit comes to live within them and, from that point on, a spiritual battle exists between their sinful nature and the Holy Spirit. Gal. 5:17 describes this battle: "For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want." Our sinful nature is a powerful force which will continue to rule our lives unless we submit to the Spirit just as Gal. 5:16 tells us, "live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature." The following parable describes the battle within us:

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life...
"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

One wolf is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.

The other wolf is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old chief simply replied, "The one you feed."
(Author Unknown)

This parable truly describes the spiritual battle every Christian faces. Which wolf are you feeding? Rom. 8:13 also tells us that there are two ways we can live: "if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live."

1) You can feed the evil wolf and live according to your sinful nature and die or
2) You can feed the good wolf and through the Spirit put to death the misdeeds of the body and live.

You need to choose wisely as only "those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God" (Rom. 8:14). Choose life and through the power of the Holy Spirit put to death the misdeeds of the body so that you may inherit eternal life.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for the wisdom of Your teaching, for Your unfailing love for fallen and sinful mankind, for Your suffering and death on the cross to redeem us and bring us back to the Father.  Thank You also for the prophets You send to us today as Your servants, who build the church by preaching and teaching Your Word. Grant them strength and constancy, and enable us to properly see and value what they do.  Amen.
