Slide Show about Affordable Care Act Implementation in Rhode Island

The RI Health Coverage Project held four forums over the past month to educate Community Leaders about how the Affordable Care Act is helping Rhode Islanders and the changes that will go into effect in January 2014.

This slide show provides information about the Medicaid Expansion, the Health Insurance Exchange, and new subsidies that will be available to help Rhode Islanders purchase health insurance. The forums also identified some of the policy challenges and decisions facing state leaders, as well as opportunities for community input as ACA implementation moves forward in the coming year.

The Rhode Island Health Coverage Project, an initiative of The Economic Progress Institute and Rhode Island KIDS COUNT, works to ensure that the consumer voice is present as the state makes decisions about health care reform.

Rhode Island's Choice for Essential Health Benefit Benchmark & Opportunity to Submit Comments to Federal Government By December 26

The RI Health Coverage Project recently released a fact sheet describing the state's choice of The Essential Health Benefit Benchmark (EHB). The EHB sets the minimum benefits that individual and small group health insurance plans will need to offer after January 1, 2014. Rhode Island defined its EHB Benchmark and submitted it to the federal government in Fall 2012.

The federal government is soliciting public comments on the state's choice of the benchmark plan and supplemental benefits. Comments are due by December 26, 2012. You can submit your comments here.

Note: The state EHB selections are included at the end of a larger set of proposed federal rules regarding the EHB. To make it clear that you are commenting just on Rhode Island's EHB, be sure to clearly state that the comments are for the STATE BENCHMARK selection only. You should also send a copy of your comments to The Executive Committee of the RI Healthcare Reform Commission by sending them to Lieutenant Governor Roberts at info@ltgov.state.ri.us.
