National Annual Meeting News
By now, I am sure that many of you have either read or watched the news relating to the remarks, on our leadership policies, by our National President, Secretary Robert Gates.

In order to have a better understanding of Gate's vision and ideas, I would encourage you to either watch his speech or read the transcript of his remarks.  You can do so by clicking here.

As we move forward, together, I hope that you will join me in keeping the mission of the BSA in mind - ensuring that our young men and women are given the best programs possible in leadership, citizenship and personal fitness.

Please contact me at william.garrett@scouting.org with any questions.

Yours in Scouting,

Bill Garrett
Scout Executive & CEO

National Youth Leadership Training
Leadership is a key factor in the development of a Boy Scout/Venturer. One of the most valuable things Scouting offers is the opportunity to be a leader and to develop his or her leadership skills. The National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) course provides an exceptional opportunity for the youth to do just that.

The Warrior Trail is a race composed of a series of obstacles racing over varying distances and obstacle difficulty. On-site registration begins at 10:30 AM and the event begins at 12:00 PM. Medals and t-shirts are guaranteed to the first 150 registrants of both the Cub Scout trail and the Boy Scout trail.  Download your registration form here.
2015 Popcorn Sale
Has your unit completed their 2015 Popcorn Commitment Form? Have you signed up for the Council Popcorn Kick-off on July 30 at 6:00 PM at FirstEnergy Stadium? Have you planned your unit's kick-off?  What should you do at your unit kick-off?

A unit kick-off is important! It doesn't matter whether it's big or small, a separate event or part of a regular Troop or Pack meeting. Invite parents and siblings to a kick-off to bring special attention to the annual popcorn sale.  During this time you can:

  • Explain the products
  • Explain all the prize incentives- inspire and motivate your Scouts so they see the really great prizes (really!!) they can earn
  • Explain all the monetary incentives-inspire and motivate your parents so they see how selling popcorn can help them entirely fund their child's Scouting experience for an entire year
  • Explain that there is not as much resistance to price because people want to support Scouting. (On a per unit basis, popcorn is more affordable than most other fundraisers done for schools, sports, etc...and more profit (70%) is returned back to the unit and council then in most other fundraisers?

Remember we are not selling popcorn we are selling Scouting!
