Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation
|
It has been a great summer here at good ol' sunny Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation. All of the Scouts and leaders are having the time of their lives learning new skills, experiencing new adventures, and drinking all of t he slushies that their stomachs can hold. Many troops/packs have already handed in their reservation form for the 2015 summer season! But don't worry we will save you a spot. (As long as you hand in your $100 deposit for Camp Meade or $20 deposit for Camp DuPortail.) For summer 2015 reservations please contact Kathryn Tylka at 570-754-1755 or kathryn.tylka@scouting.org.

Path of the Warrior
| |

The Path of the Warrior - Coming to Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation on July 26, 2014The Lenni Lenape Warrior Trail is about a return to the child-like sense of adventure that many may have lost because of everyday routines. The Lenni Lenape Warrior Trail wants to keep this sense of adventure alive in our youth BEFORE they lose it. This is a day filled with fun and adventure as our Cub Scouts embark on an obstacle course. With their adult partner, the boys can also go to the lake for fishing, the bb gun and archery ranges, and try tomahawk throwing.
The committee for the Lenni Lenape Warrior Trail needs your help to make this possible. If interested in assisting with this adventure day, we would love to have you on the volunteer staff. In ret urn for volunteering, you will receive a Lenni Lenape Warrior Trail T-shirt and the satisfaction of being a part of this adventure day in its infancy. You may also contribute to the all day pot-luck picnic for staff and partake in the enjoyment of new friends and fellowship.
Please contact Tim Barrett at 610-367-5091 to volunteer or click here for additional information.

2014 National Youth Leader Training
|
Leadership is a key factor in the development of a Boy Scout/Venturer. One of the most valuable things Scouting offers is the opportunity to be a leader and to develop his or her leadership skills. The National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) course provides an exceptional opportunity for the youth to do just that.
NYLT is an intensive six day training experience for Senior Patrol Leaders, Assistant Senior Patrol leaders, Patrol leaders and other youth leaders as well as prospective troop leaders and venture crew leadership. The course uses a systematic approach to teach contemporary leadership skills, with an emphasis on both theory and practical application in a Scouting context. For the Scout who desires to be a better and more effective leader NYLT is an unparalleled opportunity.
The Hawk Mountain Council is offering NYLT August 10-15, 2014 at the Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation. Additional information may be found here and on our website .

FIRST ANNUAL WINTER BREAK S.T.E.M. UNIVERSITY
| |
Save the date... December 27, 2014. After the excitement of the holiday rush is over, young people are looking to get out of the house for the next adventure. Plan on attending the First Annual Winter Break Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) University organized by the Hawk Mountain Council.
STEM disciplines are considered by many to be the foundation for academic and professional fields of an advanced society. In many forums - including political/governmental and academic - the strength of the STEM workforce is viewed as an indicator of a nation's ability to sustain itself.
At the very core of our mission, in the Hawk Mountain Council, we are working hard to align ourselves with local education and other programs to help enrich the lives of Scouts. Did you know that the STEM program has existed in the Boy Scouts of America since the very beginning of our program? Some of the very first merit badges were STEM related; they just were not referred to that way. A great example is the Computer merit badge which has been offered since 1968, much earlier than computers were adopted in the mainstream. We have continued to be cutting edge including the recent release of the Robotics merit badge.
STEM recognition in the BSA comes in the form of the NOVA award and the prestigious SUPERNOVA award. These awards are presented to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers who display knowledge and understanding of STEM concepts through the completion of project requirements. Please click here for more information on the awards programs.
If you would like to be on the founder's committee of this event, please email Joshua Potts at Joshua.potts@scouting.org or call 610-926-3406.
