Day Scout Program
| |
The pilot program of Day Scout during last year's summer camping season was a great success, so Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation is making it a program staple. The Day Scout Program is for those Scouts who are unable to attend an entire week of camping, allowing Scouts the opportunity to earn merit badges. The program is also open for those Scouts desiring to earn additional merit badges as well.
The cost is $30 per day (normally for four days, totaling $120); this includes lunch. However, it does not include any additional merit badge supplies that may be required. Scouts may sign up on-line for merit badges as a Day Scout. Scouts must then verify merit badge sign-up Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM in front of Willits Dining Hall and receive any additional information for the week he is attending.
The Scout must then report to the Boy Scout Administration Building the following Monday prior to the start of any merit badge session and sign in. The Scout must then sign out at the Administration Building at the end of the day. Completed and partial merit badge cards will be available for pickup on Friday of the attended week.

Adult Leadership Training
| |
"All Scouts deserve a trained leader." This phrase is talked about frequently within Scouting. Training is one of the keys to a successful Scouting experience for young people; second only to the selection of the right person for each responsibility, is a trained volunteer.
Whether you are a brand new leader just starting in a Cub Pack, a seasoned veteran of a Scout Troop, or working with young adults in a Venture Crew, the youth in your unit deserve trained, adult leadership. "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" but there will always be some new idea presented at a training session. That "new idea," when taken back to the unit and implemented, may just be the thing that gets more youth excited about Scouting and keeps them in the program longer.
A trained leader is knowledgeable and confident in the role being performed. The knowledge and confidence of a trained leader are quickly sensed by Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, or Venturers and are a positive influence on their lives. For this reason, the Training Committee of the Hawk Mountain Council is committed to providing top quality training opportunities for leaders, parents and Scouts at the district and council levels. Through these efforts, the delivery of a quality Scouting program can be provided to our entire youth membership. Be sure to check the council website for upcoming training opportunities and become a Trained Leader!
