Reading Holiday Parade
|
On November 23, Scouts from all over the Council will have the opportunity to march in the 2013 Reading Holiday Parade in Downtown Reading. To show the strength of Scouting in the Hawk Mountain Council, we would like to have all units march in the same section of the parade - a continuous sea of local packs, troops, and crews. We will be unified in our mission and in our presence. Bring your unit flag so we can show off each unit as well. Let's show our community that Scouting is alive and well in the Hawk Mountain Council!
To reserve your place or for more information contact Jeff Lewis at 484-248-0233 or jeff.lewis@scouting.org.

Hello from Gilwell Field
|

Wood Badge Course N6-528-13 has just finished up and the Wood Badgers have departed Gilwell. This year's course was a great success and all attending have rededicated themselves to the Scouting movement. Beginning with Day 1 where participants were greeted in the Reservation parking lot to their departure on Day 6 from the Reservation parking lot, participants enjoyed team-building activities, very informative presentations, a little bit of rain, Scouting fellowship, and great food. From the participants to the staff, thank you all for making the course such a rewarding and very educational experience. I look forward to seeing everyone on the trail in years to come.
Please allow me to take this opportunity to congratulate Eric Silva for being selected as the next course director for Wood Badge Course N6-528-15. I am sure he will be a great course director and as Scoutmaster of Troop 1, will ensure the delivery of a great program.
Until we meet again, be safe in your travels and good hunting.
Yours in Scouting,
David Muldowney
Scoutmaster, Troop 1

2013 Ventur-een
|
The Hawk Mountain Council Venturing Officers Association (VOA) is proud to announce a successfully spooktacular Haunted Ventu-een. This event took place October 4-6 at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation. The weekend was spent camping in tents, enjoying the company of other Venturers, and having a blast with pumpkin themed activities. This included 1,700 chances to shoot pistols at pumpkins, catapulting pumpkins across the lawn, throwing tomahawks at pumpkins, and you guessed it, chucking pumpkins off the climbing tower. Of course we also climbed the outdoor tower, bouldered on the horizontal wall, and ate delicious food throughout the weekend. Congrats to Crew 721 for their no-bake pumpkin cheesecake dessert that won our dessert competition. Thank you all for attending. We can't wait to see everyone April 4-6 for Phenomenon 2014, which is co-hosted with the Area 6 VOA. Get your game face on for this event because we're anticipating 350 Venturers to play "Game Traveler" - play games through the ages and be the hero in your own adventure.

Fall Recruitment
Calling all units! Just because Back to School or Meet the Teacher Night's are over, doesn't mean that unit recruitment is! Fall is a great time for recruiting new Scouts. Set up a table at a local community day, hang fliers in markets and post offices, hand out unit fliers with candy during a Halloween parade or on Trick-or-Treat night, invite a friend to Cub Adventure Day! The options are endless! Think outside the box and provide every child with the opportunity to be a Scout!
