SWEET-IDEA Workshop: Power Dynamics

Power is widely recognized as the currency of the workplace. Derived from many sources, and in the hands of a skillful leader, power provides a toolbox to get work done, with or without the legitimate power of command. Power and Leadership will explore sources and uses of power in modern organizational life and prepare you to be PowerSmart - better able to facilitate collaboration and innovation with a nuanced layering of hard and soft power tools. Association of Energy Engineers at UCSD is a new organization created in Fall 2013, aimed to create networking opportunities for undergraduate students, collaborate with each other to increase energy engineering awareness, and interact with professionals in the field of energy management. SAMCAD SolidWorks Workshops (Introductory & Advanced)

Want to learn CAD but don't want to do it alone? Great! Come learn the
fundamentals of the 3D modeling software SolidWorks! All skill levels are
welcome. We will also teach an advanced lesson concurrently for those of
you who are more experienced. One last thing: come 30 minutes prior to the

2014 Nestle Diversity Leadership Symposium

Nestl� USA has just opened the application for the 2014 Nestl� Diversity Leadership Symposium (DLS). This is a 4-day business program targeting diverse undergraduate student leaders interested in a career in business and jump starting a possible career with Nestl� USA. At the 6th annual Nestl� DLS participants will: 

  • Gain invaluable exposure to life and careers with the world's largest food and beverage company 
  • Network with Nestl� USA executive leadership
  • Partake in a customized leadership development course
  • Utilize their leadership skills in the community through volunteerism
  • Build a network of peers from universities across the nation
  • Interview for a full-time development program or summer 2015 internship, returning to school with the chance of a job offer as well as a scholarship offer in hand

Social Innovation Fund
The Social Innovation Fund helps promote, guide, and support student-driven ideas that address specific challenges in the local or national community and abroad. Funding is available for individual and group commitments that combine theoretical understanding, applied skills, and experiential learning as agents of change. Receive up to $3,500 in funding! Applications are here at and due by April 20th at 11:59 pm.  Applicants that advance beyond the initial review process will be required to make a 30 minute presentation to the committee during May 5-9th. For more information, click here.
 
2014-2015 HENAAC Scholarships
The HENAAC Scholars Program addresses the immense need that the United States has to produce more domestic engineers and scientists. The goal of the program is to ensure STEM college retention with a 3.0 grade point average or higher; to guarantee college graduation with an undergraduate technical degree in four-five years; and, to contribute to Hispanic communities by producing STEM role models for future generations and securing the country's place as the finest technological leader in the world. Adelante MillerCoors Engineering and Science Scholarship
The 2014-3015 MillerCoors Engineering and Science Scholarship is a renewable scholarship at $3,000 for the academic year. Interested students must meet the following criteria:
  • Junior or Senior university classification by the Fall Semester of 2014
  • Open to Biochemistry, Computer Science, *Electrical Engineering, and *Mechanical Engineering (*All engineering majors may apply but preference will be given to these engineering majors first)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must be of Hispanic descent
  • Have a 3.0 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale
  • Maintain full-time enrollment status (12 hours) for the duration of the scholarship period
  • Provide two letters of recommendation highlighting leadership potential
  • Scholar must attend Adelante's Annual Leadership Institute in San Antonio, TX in November (Sponsorship to attend is included along with the scholarship)

Chasis Plans Leadership in Engineering Scholarship
The Chassis Plans Leadership in Engineering Scholarship is awarded each year to one full-time student pursuing an undergraduate or Master's degree in engineering. All scholarship winners receive a non-renewable scholarship of $1,500. The Chassis Plans' Leadership in Engineering Scholarship was founded to assist future engineers in pursuing their degree in an effort to continue America's leadership in innovation. Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, is pleased to announce the continuation of the Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program to help provide educational opportunities for future generations of scientists. The Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program for the Fall 2014 semester includes two (2) $10,000 scholarships and four (4) $5,000 scholarships, to be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students with a declared major of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related life-science field. To qualify for the scholarship, students must have a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and be enrolled in an accredited college for university for the Fall 2014 semester.  Applications will be accepted until 2:59:59 p.m. CT on August 1, 2014. NFRC Film Contest
The National Fenestration Rating Council is celebrating 25 years of service by calling students to submit an original short film exploring the important roles windows, doors, and skylights play in everyday life. Creativity is encouraged and all genres are welcome!
Scholarships will be given for the best three film entries:
  • First place - $1,500
  • Second place - $750
  • Third place - $500

The Jacobs School of Engineering Student Travel Fund provides opportunity for individual student and student organizations to apply for scholarships to supplement costs of conferences or other similar events. Rolls-Royce Summer Internships

LG Fuel Cell Systems Inc. ("LGFCS") is a solid oxide fuel cell ("SOFC") company focused on development of a one (1) MW SOFC power system for distributed generation applications. The company has two major share holders, LG Corp. and Rolls-Royce PLC, and facilities in the United States (North Canton, Ohio - headquarters), the United Kingdom (Derby) and Korea (Seoul). Product development has been focused on rapid development of a prototype system into the commercial market. There are three internships open:

Would you like to participate in an internship with multi-disciplinary teams of 3-5 engineering students are deployed to corporate sponsors to work on a project together for 10-12 weeks in the summer? Paid Summer Internship Opportunity with Brain Health Alliance
Students may apply for educational stipends to participate in the Summer 2014 Research Program at Brain Health Alliance. Students should be enrolled at their college with a major in one of the STEM fields. Work on research projects during the 3 month summer internship will be mentored by Brain Health Alliance and may be co-mentored by one of the sudent's college professors. Selected applicants will receive $2500 educational stipends for their participation in the summer program. The Summer 2014 Research Program will run from June 2 to August 29. COSMOS Summer Cluster Assistant Openings

The California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) at UC San Diego is seeking Summer Cluster Assistants to work for one month with UCSD Faculty and high school students, assisting them with labs and team projects. The Tutoring Club PQ/Torrey Highlands is seeking tutors with expertise in AP Calculus, AP Physics, and Advanced Spanish. This is a year-round position.
