I learned... That no one can ever go back, that one should not ever try to go back - the essence of life is going forward. Life is really a one way street.

Hi,

Karen

Over the years, I have grown grateful for June. The  strawberries and peas are coming up (only a couple weeks away!), sunsets wait till bedtime, and there is a surge of revitalised energy at Welkin.

Those words were spoken by Erin Byron as we settled ourselves in last weekend and welcomed Mark Moliterno, from YogaLife Institute in Pa. for his workshops on Yoga Voice.

Mark expertly guided us through various voice techniques and asana practice to demonstrate how the voice gives us a window into what is going on energetically in the body. Becoming aware of our "samskaras" (thought patterns) and how we can use Mantra as a tool to begin to move away from those negative patterns... how to BE YOGA! We came to understand how the higher frequencies of sound can have a very profound healing effect on body/mind.

As we chanted and explored the sounds coming from within us, it became crystal clear to me how our outward voices convey what is happening internally. Mark also emphasized that we don't need to possess a perfect singing voice in order to benefit from these techniques. Chanting/singing taps into the para-sympathetic nervous system of the body... relaxing us and directly impacting the brain, and is a fantastic way to "move energy" through body.

As participants in the workshop discovered, using various sounds helped us become aware of the "knots" or "blocks" in our energy body. These knots or blocks are what prevent us from using our authentic voice.

Yoga is both Science and Art! I extend an invitation to join in my Therapeutic Yoga class (alternate Fridays) at Welkin and discover the sound of you!
