IASWCD elects officers for 2013
Jeff Meinders, Ripley County, new president
Jeff Meinders, a small business owner and cattle producer, is the new IASWCD president. Meinders, a lifelong resident of Milan, has served as a supervisor for the Ripley County Soil and Water Conservation District, and previously served on the IASWCD board as a director and officer. His family farming operation consists of registered Simmental cows, corn, soybeans, wheat and hay. He also operates a construction and excavating company. He and his wife, Leah, have two sons.
Vice President
Paul Cummings is a renewable energy analyst for Hoosier Energy REC. Cummings serves as a supervisor with the Owens County SWCD. He has worked in the renewable energy field since 2006 after he received a master's degree in environmental science. He and his wife, Dana, reside in southern Indiana with their three children.
Jamie Scott, Kosciusko County SWCD, is the new IASWCD secretary. Scott is active on his family grain farm that utilizes numerous conservation practices. In 2008, they received the Conservation Legacy Award from the American Soybean Association. He also works with farmers promoting the use of cover crops. He previously served the Association as treasurer.
Bobby Hettmansperger, the new IASWCD treasurer, has served on the board for many years. The Miami County resident farms 2,500 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat and seed corn. Hettmansperger utilizes no-till, strip till and minimum till. He also incorporates filter strips, wildlife buffers and cover crops into his conservation best management practices. He and his wife, Mary, have two children and one grandchild.
New to the IASWCD board of directors is Troy Hattery, Miami County SWCD, region representative for the South-Northeast. Hattery replaces Hettmansperger. A map of the eight regions (and the corresponding director) is located online.
