Welcome to Your March eUpdate!
This month we focus on the web following the launch of our Harnessing the Web (2014) Survey Summary Report. We go much further and deeper than ever before and we identify the key online challenge facing the membership sector - Online Personalisation. In line with our commitment to focus on sector demand we will address this issue (amongst many other online topic areas) over the coming months via dedicated Blog posts, Video Insights, and themed educational sessions at our Harnessing the Web 2014 conference (more info below!).
Since our last update we are pleased to report an overwhelming response to our fresh new annual membership best-practice conference: - Membership Excellence 2014 - 13th May, 30 Euston Square, London Over half of all places are now reserved and only 4 'Early Bird' places remain. In this issue we interview speaker and IOP Head of Membership Development, Stephanie Richardson, about effective member segmentation (see below!), In this update we signpost our newest Membership Insight videos, hear why the RIBA is causing a British Invasion, communicate the latest sector vacancies and explore the latest online sector banter via our dedicated online professional networking group.
This eUpdate is kindly sponsored by leading engagement management system provider, ASI Europe.
Let's get started!

Harnessing the Web Survey Results Launched!
|
For the second consecutive year the MemberWise Network has released statistically significant membership sector findings that 'temperature checks' how well 400+ associations and membership organisations are harnessing the web to increased membership value and growth. A key theme this year is the des ire to provide members with personalised online experiences, however this is seen as a key challenge rather than a desirable goal.
Why? Because almost half of all organisations have
yet to integrate their CRM systems with their websites and of those who have integrated half aren't able to offer the ability for members to join or renew online.
MemberWise Network Chair, Richard Gott, was asked for his initial thoughts to these key findings:
'These results are a little disappointing as our view was that most membership organisations were well on the journey towards online personalisation via respective system/process connectivity. We have discovered what can only be described as an online 'ticking membership engagement time bomb' particularly for organisations that service members with high online member value (OMV) propensity.'
Thanks to ASI Europe for sponsoring this year's research summary report.

MEMX 2014 - Member Segmentation Best Practice
|
Since our last eUpdate we can confirm that half of all places at Membership Excellence 2014 have now been reserved and we now have only 4 Early Bird places left. 13th May 30 Euston Square, London
In this short article we interview speaker and IOP Head of Membership Development, Stephanie Richardson , to find out why member segmentation is so important - 'Effective segmentation makes a real difference and plays a critical role in the IOP's member value proposition. It enabl es us to have a 'deep' conversation rather than what has previously been a somewhat status driven and transactional relationship.' 'Our membership is changing and we have evolved with it. In my session I will outline how we effectively segment groups of members, messages and products/services to drive membership success.' 'One of our key membership segments is our growing community of Fellows so I will also provide an overview of how taking our upgrading process online is making a real and measurable impact.' Stephanie will be joined by 12 other membership expert speakers including: - Clare Hodgson, Professional Development Manager, ACCA
- Charles Veal, Member Services Manager, RTPI
- Sue Froggatt, Trainer and Consultant
- Claire Nicoll, Development Officer, CIWM - Richard Gott, Head of Membership Development, RCGP
Key Topic Areas include: Great Ways to Increase Member Recruitment, Practical ways to Optimise Member Retention, Implement Effective Membership Placement/Positioning Strategies, Increase Member Engagement via Segmentation, Improve Membership Upgrade Activity, Enable Personalisation to Drive Member Engagement and Creative Ways to Develop Dynamic Local CPD opportunities.
Notable sessions will include the results from an audit of social media use within the membership sector, Top 10 Tips to Engage Members via your membership magazine, PLUS the launch of the MemberWise Network's latest advice sheet, The Perfect Membership Scheme?. This new resource will be complimented by the sector's first interactive membership 'temperature-check' LIVE at the event. The day will also incorporate a dedicated membership focused trade exhibition and a complimentary networking drinks reception on the RCGP Roof Terrace. Ticket promotions: - Only 4 Early-Bird passes now available (saving £14) - 3 for 2 (only 3 allocations remain)

Memberwise Blog: The British Invasion (RIBA)
|
This month our Blog focuses on how leading membership bodies are opening their doors to meet their remit of educatating the public.
Guest Blogger, Joni Tyler (RIBA Head of CPD) tells us more about what the RIBA currently has in-store for visitors... The RIBA champions better buildings, communities and the environment through architecture and our members.
To further that work, we have always served a dual purpose: one function is to deliver services, information and support to members, students and clients, by such means as CPD, for example. These services help to ensure that our members can be at the peak of their profession, capable and professional.
Our other remit has always been to promote architecture to the public. This latter function has given us an important public cultural face that helps people see their surroundings in a completely new way, and engages them with the built environment. This work in turn has an impact on the perception of architects.

Harnessing the Web - Handy Info Graphic to Share!
|
Three years ago the MemberWise Network pioneered the concept of using online and offline info graphics to communicate membership research findings a couple of years ago. We again 'walk the talk' by publishing our own Harnessing the Web 2014 Info Graphic.
It contains all of the key research findings on one-side of A4 and has received a great response from delegates at our research launch event in late February.
How should the info graphic be used? We recommend that if you are planning to have an initial discussion regarding your organisations past, current and proposed future use of the web this may prove a great tool when initiating conversation, debate and/or dialogue. When more focused planning is required we recommend you refer to the main report and the services provided by the MemberWise Network (including presentations, videos and consultancy services). On behalf of the Network I would like to thank Steven Randall at Ocean Design for his great design work and can highly recommend his services!
