Dear Colleague
Welcome to your July eUpdate!
The Summer finally feels like it's arrived! The sun is shining, Murray won the tennis on Sunday and we are continuing to work on a range of great membership organisation and association specific resources for you! We kick-off this issue by announcing the launch of our next 'game changer' web conference that will show you how to better exceed online member needs/requirements to enhance membership engagement, and increase member value and growth:
- Harnessing the Web 2013 - Tuesday 8th October, 30 Euston Square, London
This year our conference will be our most adventurous yet! We hope to welcome up to 300 membership and association professionals who will 'pick and mix' attendance at an incredible 36 sessions covering four critical membership focused areas outlined below.
We invite you to save £20 off entry via our Early Bird promotion and/or 3 places for the price of 2!
In this eUpdate we ask for your input on a much-needed membership scheme model advice sheet, feature information on our online social networking training course, ask you to vote for our next 'Legal Lunch and Learn' series and debate if 'excellence' should come as standard?
We also feature the latest sector vacancies, update you on the latest online professional networking group banter and provide our monthly 'Think Piece' article from the Professionalism Group.
This issue is kindly sponsored by leading engagement management system provider, ASI Europe.
Let's get started!

The Perfect Membership Scheme...
|
Over the past couple of months the network has seen a surge in the number of requests for information on how to investigate new and quality assure existing membership scheme models. We want to address this with your help.
If you are a member of our LinkedIn Group you may have seen that we are discussing if there is such a thing as the Perfect Membership Scheme? This discussion forms part of a new advice sheet that we hope to launch at the end of the Summer.
You can get involved in three ways:
1) We are keen to understand the most predominant scheme type currently in use. We predict it will be either a fixed annual renewal period-based model or one based on rolling membership (i.e. members renew 12 months after they join and renewals take place throughout the year). You can outline your scheme type via our quick poll on LinkedIn...
2) If you would like to help us to quality assure the advice sheet we are looking for 2 more volunteers. You can express an interest by simply replying to this email.
3) If you represent a commercial organisation supplying the sector we are currently inviting expressions of interest in sponsoring this publication. You can express an interest by simply replying to this email.

Online Social Media Training - Only 3 weeks to go!
|
Online social media is something we can't ignore. Over 70% of our organisations have a presence, however only 1 in 3 have a structured approach or plan in place.
Some key questions to consider:
- How structured and aligned to strategy is your activity? - Have you a social media policy for staff and members in place? -Do you have a plan linked to membership/marketing strategies/plans? - Do you actively measure and report on effectiveness? - Can you quantify the return on investment over and above Likes/Follows?
If your answer is 'no' to any of the above or if your organisation is about to embark on 'going social' you should consider attending our new one- day training course.
- 31st July & 7th October
- Central London
Learning outcomes include the ability to take a more structured approach, a more informed approach to aid member engagement/marketing, a deeper knowledge and understanding of key platforms, a more strategic/organisation-wide approach, identify effective ways to measure engagement levels and understand how to analyse social metrics/results.

Should 'Excellence' be provided as standard?
|
Coming from Generation X whenever I hear the word 'Excellent' I think back to 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure' movie in the late 1980s. However, this month an interesting debate is taking place on the topic of excellence.
Alan Nelson (of Nelson Croom) 'got the show on the road' by referring to an 'excellent' experience linked to great customer service he received recently. He questioned if 'excellence' really should come as standard? A number of MemberWise subscribers including the Professionalism Group, RCOG, and the Deeson Group have responded to this topical debate. My personal view is that we should all aim to exceed expectations from a customer service perspective; however I concur with Luke Stevens-Burt (Director of Membership Relations, RCOG) that it can sometimes be quite a challenge when handling relationships with sometimes thousands of members.
I also think that organisational culture can impact on delivering excellence. If task focused rather than outcome or customer-service focused this will be a challenge!
What do you think? Have your say in our great online debate...

Our network is all about sharing so here is our regular 'Think Piece' article submitted by Susie Kay from The Professionalism Group.

Why professional competence is all about comfort and security...
They say every day should be a school day so here's a little something I have learned recently.
I've spent the past few weeks living away from home while dealing with some plumbing issues.
Now I'm back, this acutely uncomfortable experience has unexpectedly offered me an insight into the value of how we use our professional competences.
