Issue 22
February 2013
Dear Colleague

Welcome to your February Issue!

We kick-off our second issue of the year by inviting you to our next one-day national conference:

Conducting Effective Membership Research to
Drive Member Value and Growth

The conference will take place on 23rd May at the National Liberal Club (London) and will provide you with an opportunity to take a 'deep dive' into member research and how to 'get it right!'. See article below.

In this issue we take a look at how you can use infographics to increase member engagement, provide a final opportunity to vote for our next series of 'Lunch and Learn' seminar topics and investigate 'How to do CPD'.

This issue is kindly sponsored by our 2013 eUpdate Partner - Leading CRM provider, ASI Europe.

Let's get started!

'Harnessing the web...' Survey Results

In late 2012 we consulted with over 3,000 membership organisations and associations to understand how the membership sector harnesses the power of the web to drive membership value and growth, and its plans for the future.

The results contained within this survey make for compelling reading and are both unique and statistically significant.

The MemberWise Network and research report sponsor, IndigoBlue, are pleased to announce the launch of this 'ground-breaking' survey report.

The survey is complemented by a 'handy' infographic (by Ocean Design) and a 'deep dive' summary of key elements of the report which will be published shortly by partner organisation, ASI Europe.

The results were presented yesterday to an audience of over 60 professional body and trade association leaders at the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), London.

Lunch & Learn Topics - Last chance vote!

This is your last chance to vote for the topics of our second series of free 'Lunch and Learn' sessions that will take place on 11th April and 19th September 2013 (sponsored by KingstonSmith LLP).

What is a 'Lunch & Learn'? Our popular lunch and learn sessions incorporate an educational seminar (led by a subject specialist), dedicated Q&A session and complimentary buffet lunch.

You are in control of the topics that will be covered so we are keen for you to cast your vote now as voting will close on 25th February.

Here are your five choices:

1) Tax: Reducing your burden - Tax exemptions for membership organisations
2) VAT: Back to basics - Helping you to minimise the risk to your business
3) Governance: Interactive session providing practical advice using tailored toolkits
4) Membership: What's in it for me? How to deliver added value to retain and increase membership
5) HR:
Leading you through the employment law maze - Are you up to date?

Only two of the above topics will be converted into 'Lunch & Learn' events (sponsored by KingstonSmith LLP)

How to do CPD - A good read!
How to do CPD' is a refreshing approach from the Professional Development Consortium, a new organisation that is researching better, quicker and more affordable ways of doing professional development.

'How to do CPD' is informed by research into the CPD experiences of over 1000 professionals, and interviews with professional bodies and employers.

It suggests an alternative to the typical CPD cycle, with a stronger emphasis on collaborative approaches.

Instead of placing CPD within an overt educational framework, it views CPD as a tool to make better sense of the challenges individuals face in their roles.
