Greetings!
This has been a productive and exciting time for Communities In Schools. We are fortunate to have two new members of our Board of Directors who bring their considerable talents and energy to our mission of serving students in Nevada. Ed Cecchi, community advocate, and Gene Galloway, President and Chief Executive Officer of Plaza Bank, are jumping in with both feet to support our organization. Read the press release here. Many thanks to all involved with the Clark County Medical Society Alliance fashion presentation, which was a fabulous event, held March 6th. We had the opportunity to increase awareness for CISN and will benefit from the proceeds of the event. We continue to work to connect students in Nevada with the essential resources they need to stay in school, and appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
Diane Fearon CEO Communities In Schools of Nevada |

CISN connects Girls Basketball Team with Dress for Success
Sunrise Mountain girls basketball coach, Christopher Williams, came to our site coordinators for help with outfitting the team with dress clothes for their game days. Site coordinator Katie Frey connected the team with Dress for Success, a program that helps women achieve financial independence by addressing their social and economic needs. Frey says, " After the basketball team had their fitting with Dress for Success, they came into the resource room with huge smiles on their faces showing off all of their clothing and telling us what a great experience it was."
Junior Whykella Haley says, " Now that our athletes are looking like mature people, young adults, it's better. It sends a message out to everybody that we're changing and we're better than we used to be, as people and as a school."

Success Story
Alyssa, the site coordinator at Fremont Middle School, recently helped an 8th grade student advocate for himself with his teachers. Her assessment of the student is that he is very smart but does not apply himself. Alyssa agreed to accompany him as he went around to all of his teachers to get his make-up work. The catch was that he had to be the one to communicate with the teacher. He was able to get his grades up and missing assignments in before his IEP meeting, which showed significant academic improvement. By supporting the student as he learns to advocate for himself, Alyssa encourages development of valuable skills and behavior that will help this student prepare for high school and continued academic success.
