SimpliCITY Stormwater Management
Greetings!
MapsOnline and PeopleForms are providing thirty (30) municipalities with a regional stormwater management platform, including online mapping, field GIS mapping tools, inspection forms, and reports. "The goal of the project is to enable these
communities to satisfy their NPDES Permits as simply as possible and at the lowest cost." -Jim Esterbrook PeopleGIS Project Manager
Cities and towns across the country are faced with increasing pressures from regulatory agencies to comply with stormwater regulations. In an effort to meet compliance goals and share resources on a regional level, 30 communities have come together to form the Central Massachusetts Regional Stormwater Coalition (CMRSWC). The project was funded by a Community Innovation Challenge (CIC) Grant with the goal of developing simple tools for compliance with the 2003 Massachusetts MS4 Permit and the forthcoming 2013 permit. Communities are leveraging PeopleForms' GPS connectivity to map outfalls and catch basins. In some cases, college students are conducting the field work. In other cases, town staff are going out into the field with survey-grade GPS streaming data directly into PeopleForms, thereby eliminating data processing and handling PeopleForms will produce reports and summaries intended to satisfy permit requirements. Future project phases to tie-in work orders ad maintenance activities. And every step of the way, simple interfaces that focus on what is necessary will ensure success. "Our clients wanted us on this project. This was the best part of getting this opportunity. Auburn, Oxford, and Holden pulled us in because they knew MapsOnline and PeopleForms would give them the tools they needed. We appreciate their patronage."
- Kevin Flanders PeopleGIS President
We urge communities to call us to discuss how these tools can help them satisfy the forthcoming stormwater permit in their state. Stormwater has many communities wondering where the resources will come from. We believe MapOnline and PeopleForms can help. |
