I hope our newsletter finds you well.  Many thanks to Congress of Neighborhoods Committee Chair, Cindy Cleghorn, for her guest message last week while I was out.  The Congress of Neighborhoods is an amazing gathering of Neighborhood Councils citywide on Saturday, September 24th.  You'll have the opportunity to attend workshops, meet City officials and network with one another.  I'm looking forward to seeing you all there.

Congratulations to our newest Clean Streets Hero, Rosie Brown, from United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council!

Rosie was recognized by the Board of Public Works today for her awesome work informing her community about LA Sanitation services and MyLA 311You can check out more about Rosie in this clip hereYou can also learn more about other Clean Streets Heroes on our Public Works Liaison page here.

The September 1st funding deadline for your Neighborhood Council Strategic Budget Plan is fast approaching so please make sure that you get your plans in on time. Also, thanks to all the board members who've weighed in about Neighborhood Council support services at our EmpowerLA Town Halls. If you didn't get a chance to give us feedback, we've extended the EmpowerLA Town Hall online survey deadline to Monday, August 22nd, so you still have time to provide your comments.  We'll be following up with the survey results in a report to the Neighborhood Councils.

On Monday, our Field team will be supporting Mayor Eric Garcetti and his Office of Immigrant Affairs to support the launch of "Tu Voto Es Cosa Seria" at El Pueblo.  This is a civic engagement campaign to increase voter education and awareness in Los Angeles.  More information about the event below.  We hope to see you there!

Lastly, our new EmpowerLA Leadership Academy Workshop "Beyond Neighborhood Councils - How to Run for Higher Office, Get Appointed to a City Commission or Find a Job with the City
on Tuesday, August 23rd, at the Central Library has had an amazing response with nearly 200 RSVPs.  With featured speakers including City Controller Ron Galperin, Board of Public Works Commissioner Joel Jacinto, LADWP Commission Jill Banks Barad and Commissioner Joy Atkinson from our own Board of Neighborhood Commissioners joining the discussion, we expect a great evening of learning.

Don't forget that the Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates meet tomorrow.  Have a great weekend!
