We hope that our newsletter finds you well.  As we wrap up the calendar year we're sending you a reminder about the upcoming deadline, January 5, 2015, related to the Neighborhood Council Board Member Code of Conduct policy adopted by the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners (Commission) on September 15, 2014.  

 

As you may know, messages have gone out in previous months related to the policy and pertinent timeline(s) and deadline(s).  We want to impress upon you the importance of this policy and your compliance with it as there are clear actions that may impact your participation in the Neighborhood Council system, if you do not take the necessary steps to address this requirement set forth by the Commission.

 

The good news is that our systems team has made this task easier for you to complete.  By going onto the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment's website EmpowerLA.org you can easily fulfill this requirement in just a few minutes.  Please follow the instructions as presented: The EmpowerLA website has a button (top right) that is labeled Code of Conduct. This link takes you to the online Code of Conduct form. Enter your full name, email address, Neighborhood Council name, and sign using your computer mouse on a pc, or your finger/stylus on a touchscreen. Click on "Submit" at the bottom. Upon submission, a receipt is sent to the email you entered with instructions and information on updates. 

 

Currently, and for purposes of easier tracking and utilization of less human resources, the signature page that pertains to the policy will  only be accepted via the online portal. Board Members are encouraged to work together in assisting those members that do not have regular internet access or access to a computer, in order to complete the form.  

 

Some suggestions may include, visiting your local library; sharing a computer at a meeting and completing the requirement there; utilizing your smartphone and instructing others on how to complete the form on their smartphones. Also, board members are welcome and encouraged to come into our offices to sign and complete the form during our regular business hours, if needed.  These are simply some ideas on how to take care of this requirement by January 5, 2015 and ensure that you continue to participate as an active member of your NC board and a key member of the system in general.

 

We recommend, that once you fill out the form online and receive your receipt that you maintain a copy of it in your Neighborhood Council folder or take a picture of it with your mobile device so that you are able to provide proof of completion of this task upon request.
