General Manager's Update

I hope this newsletter finds you well. I'm doing my best to get over a wicked case of food poisoning yesterday so I can be healthy and ready to go for Region 5 Neighborhood Council elections on Sunday.

I was sorry to hear that a former Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council board member, Clay McFarland, passed away recently. Clay served as the LBNC President, Vice President and Treasurer before retiring for health reasons. I remember Clay being very supportive of the Neighborhood Council system and of our department by contacting the City Council last year in support of our budget. LBNC and we here will remember him with respect and fondness.

I was pleased to stop by the Westside's Public Safety Town Hall on Wednesday. Partnering with the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils and PlanCheckNC, we had over 150 people attend to hear the latest news from LAPD and the Planning Department. Councilmembers Bonin and Koretz were also there to lend their support.

If you haven't already taken the LAFD strategic plan survey, please take a moment to do so. This is the first time LAFD is putting together a strategic plan with community input so please let them know what your community thinks about their services. The survey is open until Monday, March 31, 2014.

On Tuesday, April 1st, Kevin James, President of the Board of Public Works Commission, will be at the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners meeting at Cheremoya Avenue Elementary School, 6017 Franklin Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90028. Commissioner James is a great collaborator and friend to Neighborhood Councils so I hope you join us to hear from him on his plans to partner with Neighborhood Councils and on leadership in general.

Just a reminder that our office will be closed on Monday, March 31, 2014, in observance of Cesar Chavez Day. Take good care and have a relaxing weekend!

Best,

Grayce Liu,

General Manager

The Election in your Backyard

As Angelenos, it's important that we all take an active role in making our city prosperous, safe, livable, and well-run. With that in mind, will you vote in your neighborhood council election this weekend? This city is too big and diverse to leave all the decisions to City Hall. That's why I've made a proactive effort to host office hours, neighborhood walks, and town halls in every corner of Los...
