General Manager's Update
I hope this newsletter finds you well. I especially mean this given that I've been fighting off the flu this week myself! This was not the time for me to get sick because the City Council took final action today to approve my permanent appointment as General Manager of the Department. I am very honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue working for the Neighborhood Councils and the City in this capacity. I'm really touched and so appreciative of all the kind words and well wishes from Mayor Villaraigosa, the City Councilmembers and the Neighborhood Council Board members.
Thank you especially to all the Neighborhood Councils and individual Board members who took the time to personally tell the City of your support for me! It's really important to me that everyone knows it's a collaboration of our incredible staff, our City family partners and Neighborhood Councils that makes it possible for me to do this job. Any success of mine is really all of our success so thank you!! We're a week away from the launch of the Neighborhood Council Plan Review and Reform Initiative on Saturday, January 26th. There is still opportunity for you to participate as a committee member in this important review of the Plan for a Citywide System of Neighborhood Councils where you'll have the chance to weigh in on policies and procedures that affect the daily operations of the Neighborhood Councils, such as stakeholder definition (particularly factual basis stakeholder), Neighborhood Council Funding Program and ability to provide grants and raise money, the Brown Act and agenda posting, elections and boundary adjustment policies, education and leadership develop, and the duties and powers of the the Department among other important issues that will 100% affect the future growth of the Neighborhood Council system. If you want to help shape the next evolution of the Neighborhood Councils, please contact Commissioner Doug Epperhart at NCPlan@EmpowerLA.org as soon as possible. For more infomation please click here or visit EmpowerLA.org/NCPlan. Just a reminder that our office will be closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Thank you again for all of your support and great work for your community! Have a relaxing weekend!!
