Interim General Manager's Update
I hope this newsletter finds you well. I'm so pleased to share that Mayor Villaraigosa sent a letter to City Council ( Council File number 12-1934) yesterday asking them to approve his appointment of me as the permanent General Manager of the Department. I know that he was impressed with all of the great work we have accomplished together in these 4 short months, and I want to thank our amazing Neighborhood Council leaders and Department staff for your wonderful efforts. This appointment would not have been possible without your support and the support of our City partners: Mayor's Office, our Councilmembers, Board of Neighborhood Commissioners, City Attorney's Office, City Clerk, Controller, CAO, CLA and the City departments who work with Neighborhood Councils to keep this City running. Thank you so much!
We've been busy the rest of the week seating the last of the new Boards, which will run into next week. At the Mid City West Community Council, I had the pleasure of hearing City Watch editor, Ken Draper, give a brief history of the origins and purpose of the Neighborhood Councils to the council he co-founded 10 years ago.
It was lovely to bump into a lot of Neighborhood Councils folks at the holiday parties for Councilmember Englander and Councilmember Krekorian, who then left his party early so he could attend the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils last night to speak on the necessity of the sales tax increase next year. Lastly, our Council 4 Councils program is shifting into high gear now. After a successful run with the New Board Member Development series, our knowledgeable mentors and trainers are going out to assist Neighborhood Councils with meeting operations and personalized Board orientation trainings. We're so lucky to have them so committed to making our system better. They partner with our staff to ensure support where it's needed. Please contact us (see info below) if your Neighborhood Council would like assistance.
Hope you have a safe, warm and dry weekend!
