Interim General Manager's Update

I hope this newsletter finds you well and recovered from any Halloween sugar comas! This was another busy week for us as we recovered from a great weekend of well run Neighborhood Council elections while also taking some time for a staff retreat to focus on priorities for the rest of the fiscal year.  Our retreat was held at the Japanese Gardens in the Sepulveda Basin, which is quite beautiful and peaceful so I highly recommend a visit if you've not been there. It was important for all of us to be on the same page regarding how we work with Neighborhood Councils and the lens we use when looking at various options for the system.  Empowerment to me is about creating collaborative choices for self empowerment so partnering with Neighborhood Councils in developing choices for problems or systemic improvement is key to how we do our work.

We encourage you to share your ideas with us about how we can better support Neighborhood Councils, particularly in prioritizing our work for next fiscal year. Don't forget to take the survey for our budget preparations. We'll be doing our first webinar on our budget process, which is co-presented by the Mayor's Budget Advocates. A big thanks to them for all their work this past year as we prepare for the Mayor's Budget Day on November 17, 2012. More info on both the webinar and the Mayor's Budget Day below.

I hope to see you at our Board Development Workshop in South LA or at the LANCC tomorrow.

Have a relaxing weekend!

Best,

Grayce Liu,

Interim General Manager
