QUAIL HUNTING IN THE SOUTHEAST
The Tall Timbers Research Station & Land Conservancy
This organization studies game bird management (among other things) focusing its conservation efforts in the "Red Hills Region located between Tallahassee, Florida and Thomasville, Georgia." The organization has provided counsel to Pineland Farm, several thousand acres near the Santee lakes of South Carolina. The Farm has developed four principles to make a "quail hunter's paradise."

You can read more in the Garden & Gun article here.

Sinkola Plantation
Separately Shotgun Life, in conjunction with SportDOG Brand, paid a visit to Sinkola Plantation in Thomasville. You can learn more about the plantation here.

ALL ABOUT SUPPLEMENTS
Jennifer Brown of K-9 Sports Vet has provided a pointer to a long, but useful article entitled Nutritional Supplements for the Canine Athlete.

The article covers:
  • Glucosamine
  • Chondroitin Sulfate
  • Avocado and Soybean Unsaponifiables
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids
  • Methylsulfonymethane
  • Eggshell Membrane
  • and much more
You can read the article in full here.
HUNTING
Be Ready on Opening Day
DU has published a list of six tips to help you have a successful season opener.

Top 12 Most Famous Shotguns
From Teddy Roosevelt to Ernest Hemingway, Field &
Stream's Phil Bourjaily has compiled a list of famous and significant guns.

You can read more here.

Hollywood Hunters
Once upon a time Hollywood stars and professional athle
tes openly hunted on America's gamefields. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams and Sophia Loren all participated. According to Bob Svetich, the owner of The Outdoor Group, we "would be shocked at the number of sportsmen there are in Hollywood.

You can read more here.
TOP 5 SHOTGUNNING MISTAKES (and how to fix them)
Field & Stream's Phil Bourjaily demonstrates the top five shotgunning mistakes. His techniques work for "kids, new shooters and even veterans.

You can read more here .
IT TAKES MORE THAN PRACTICE
According to a study published in Perspectives in Psychological Science, practice accounts for just "18 percent of the difference in athletic success."

So why is this? According to the article's author Brooke Macnamara, "learning rates vary. Some...improve very quickly with less practice, while others require much more practice."

So if practice doesn't account for the differences what does?
  • Personality and perseverance
  • Propensity to get injured
  • Propensity to choke under pressure
  • Differences in maximum oxygen uptake
  • Differences in how muscle mass is acquired
  • Coordination
  • Height
  • Enjoyment of competition.
Happy training! You can read more here.
