Just as some field trial or hunt test dogs don't "make it," some of the explosive detection dogs belonging to the TSA are available for adoption.
These dogs either didn't make it through the program or have retired.

An article on the UC Davis website reports on the impact of neutering or spaying before 1 year of age in a new study on German shepherd dogs published in the journal Veterinary Medicine and Science.
Here are some of the findings:
- "triple the risk of one or more joint disorders -- particularly for ... CCL tears.
- 4% incidence of mammary cancers in Intact females compared with less than 1 percent of neutered females
- 7% of neutered females were diagnosed with urinary incontinence.

There are any number of reasons why your dog coughs and many different types of cough: dry, soft, honking.
While much of the time there's no cause for alarm, there are instances where a cough can indicate a serious problem. The Good Vet and Pet Guide and Petmeds each have good articles on the subject.
Flooding and Lepto  The weather has been extreme in different parts of the country. If your area has experienced flooding, be on the lookout for signs of leptospirosis, whose infection can cause severe damage and even be fatal.
