Vol. VI, Issue 19
June 7, 2016
THE RETRIEVER COMMUNITY
One of the most rewarding parts of participating in retriever sports is the people you meet along the way. Some you may only see at events, others become life-long friends.

In the past few months three members of the retriever community have experienced life-altering events. Each of them would benefit from your support.

Warner Smith
Since 2005 Tritronics/Garmin rep Warner Smith has supported field trials and hunt tests with raffle items and other donations. Recently diagnosed with ALS, his family needs our help to make his home ADA compliant and provide financial security for a young daughter.

You can help by entering the specially-created field trial or hunt test set up on Entry Express. (Look for Warner Smith Benefit Event.) Proceeds will be sent directly to Warner.

In addition, Purina is providing the "winner" of each stake (selected by the Dow) with bags of Purina Premium Performance.

The event closes June 20. Visit Entry Express to learn more.

Darrin Morman
In Late April professional dog trainer Darrin Morman had a massive stroke that left him completely paralyzed on his right side.

His family needs your help to make his home ADA compliant (ramp, grab bars, etc.) as he works his way through different types of rehab.

A Go Fund Me has been set up to receive donations. You can find it here.

Trevor Toberny
Over the past two years Trevor Toberny has undergone 26 surgeries and an amputation to deal with what started as a simple muscle pain.

His family needs your help to pay for therapy, a wheelciar, a prosthetic leg and help make his house wheelchair accessible.

A Go Fund Me has been set up to receive donations. You can find it here.
DOGS-UP RAMPS - SPECIAL OFFER
Using a ramp to help your dog get in and out of your vehicle is a smart thing to do. It saves wear and tear on both you and your dog.

And the ramps built by Dogs-Up Ramps are a good place to start. (You can read the Retrievers Online review here.)

And to make them even easier to buy, the company is making a special offer of free shipping to anyone who orders a ramp and has it delivered to the National Amateur in Stowe, Vermont.

All you have to do is place your order by June 11. Call 320-559-0165. You can read more here.
MORE WOMEN ARE HUNTING
The Range 365 website reports on a Southwick Associates survey showing that the number of female hunters in the US is growing.

You can see the full report here.

ALL ABOUT THE PINTAIL
Ducks Unlimited has a good article on pintails in terms of its population and reproductive success.

You can read more here.

HEALTH
Ticks, Ticks, Ticks
We've run a number of articles about ticks and here's another good one from Purina and included on the Pheasants Forever web site.

One of the best parts is atable that lists the most common TBDs (tick born diseases) and the symptoms.

You can read more here.

And if you want to test your tick knowledge you can try your hand at this quiz published by the Bangor Daily News.

Blastomycosis
Blasto is a serious and potential deadly disease that our dogs can contract while training, hunting or just going on a woods walk. Diagnosis "can be difficult and is commonly mistaken for cancer, penumonia and even allergies." If you suspect blasto, you may have to be "persistent with your veterinarian."

This article does a good job of describing the symptoms. You can read more here.

LOW-COST PUMP SHOTGUNS
Range365 has a review of low-cost pump shotguns.

The article reviews four:
  • Remington 870 Express
  • Benelli Nova
  • Winchester SXP
  • Mossberg 500
You can read more here.
