SNOW DELIVERY SAVES IDTAROD START
Photo: CNN
CNN reports that the Alaska Railroad has hauled 300 cubic yards of snow to Anchorage for the ceremonial start of the Iditarod.

With only two inches of snow in February, the race needed 15 truckloads for the kickoff race that had been shortened to 3 miles from the usual 11.

DOG TRAINER IN THE MAKING
Last weekend a small group was training on the west mesa of Albuquerque looking east toward the Sandia mountains. Five-year-old Josh Sanchez had been keeping himself busy when Melissa Page asked him if he wanted to run Kellan (Drol'odhar Kellan Nam Cumoran MH) owned by Mary McNeese, DVM.

Previously Josh had watched his father David handle a dog. On this day, thanks to Melissa's careful coaching, he waited until the bird hit the ground and then confidently sent Kellan on his way for a series of snappy retrieves.

- - Tip of the hat to Hugh Simpson for providing this story and photo.
AND YOU THOUGHT YOUR DOG WAS EXPENSIVE...
PetBreeds.com.
The PetBreeds website has taken a look at some of the most expensive puppies. For better or for worse, most of them start at about $1500, but a few are pretty pricey.

What would you think of paying $25,000 for a pair of teacup Pomeranian puppies or $2 million for a Tibetan Mastiff puppy?

You can read more here.
 PUNT GUNS
Harfordcountryliving.com
Punt guns were once used to take down several waterfowl in one shot. Although they have been outlawed since 1918 you can see some on display in places like the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum.

Here's a punt gun in action.
THE CLASSIC COLLECTION - LIFE MAGAZINE
What happens when a duck that thinks it's a dog meets a Chesapeake Bay retriever that can't stop itself from diving into the water to chase after anything that moves? A classic photo happens, that's what. You can read more here.
