Incidence of Reported Hip Dysplasia Other than environment (see next item), selectively breeding for normal hips is the main way to reduce the incidence of dysplasia. The OFA has created some great charts that show how the reported incidence has changed over the past 30 years. Hip Dysplasia
We're reported it before, but we think it's important so we're going to say it again. Research on hip dysplasia makes it clear that some portion of the incidence of the condition is controllable -- by owners. As reported in the Institute of Canine Biology, "we often talk about hip dysplasia as if it is a discrete disorder... in dogs dysplasia is a processs with no fixed endpoint."
