RR FACEBOOK PAGE - 1138 LIKES AND COUNTING
Thank you for supporting our Facebook page and most importantly for contributing to it. The mission of our page is the same as the newsletter and website, to celebrate achievement in AKC events.
So keep those photos and notes coming! |
THEY ATE WHAT? | |
Which item does NOT belong on this list? - Eyedropper
- Sewing needle
- Pacifier
- Elastic headband
- Lapel pins
Hint: They all do! |
MEAN SEEDS | |
Those of us who run field trials and hunting tests are familiar with the dangers of "mean seeds." Fortunately DCNR officials are starting to become educated as well.
After one of his dogs had a 2.5 inch long seed removed from his lungs, field trialer Paul Brown asked the local extension educator to take a look to see if the dog had picked up the grass awn on Paul's property. The agent found foxtail in several locations, particularly along gas pipelines and well pads.
With all the drilling in Brown's home state of Pennsylvania, there are plenty of places for the plant to become established. According to an article published in the Penn Lines, the issue is compounded by the fact that "seed mixes used to reseed pipelines and well pads often contain Canada wild rye or Virginia wild rye, native grasses ... now considered to be mean seeds."
In Pennsylvania property owners who grant land use for pipeline rights-of-way can stipulate the type of seed that gets planted n their grounds. |
FLEAS, FLEAS, FLEAS | |
Thinking about skipping that monthly parasite treatment now that the weather is getting cooler? That might not be such a great idea. Fleas can survive in temperatures as cold as 28F and highs up to 95F.
Fleas lay their eggs, as many as 40-50 per day, on your pet. The eggs then fall off, often onto your carpet and furniture where they grow into adult fleas.
If your dog has fleas that means they're already in your house. An article in The New York Times quotes Michael Dryden, an expert in the field. "No home is every under control in a week, and it can take weeks or months in some homes." |
CHECK OUT YOUR DOG'S PROFILE
One of the many features of the Retriever Results website are profiles on dogs, handlers and professional kennels. The dog profile includes:
- Parents
- Links to OFA information
- Career achievements
- Awards and recognition
- Notable littermates and siblings
You can also view a dog's performance record (2000-present for FT dogs, mid 2009-present for HT dogs), including:
- Summary of placements and passes
- Detailed performance information
- Lists of progeny
You can find this feature under Profiles. Enjoy and let us know what you think! If you have corrections let us know about those too!
