NEW CANADIAN NATIONAL AMATEUR CHAMPION | |
 | FC-AFC-CNAFC-CFC Upon the Wings of an Answered Prayer |
Meet this year's Canadian National Amateur Champion, six and a half year old chocolate lab female FC-AFC-CNAFC-CFC Upon the Wings of an Answered Prayer, owned by Bill and Micki Petrovish, handled by Bill. 157 dogs qualified and 40 dogs ran the event. Ultimately there were eight finalists and one winner. (Here's a link to the blog.)
Bill and Ammo have been a team since they jammed Ammo's a derby when she was six and a half months old. A few weeks later she won her first derby becoming the youngest Derby winner of the past 14 years.
Here are highlights of Ammo's career:
- All-Age Points: 77
- Open Points: 36
- Amateur Points: 53.5
- All-Age Wins: 13, including two double header wins in 2014
- Derby Points: 144 (a record)
- Derby Wins: 18
- US National Qualifier: 5x
- Canadian National Qualifier: 5x
- Canadian National Finalist: 3x
Ammo's parents are FC-AFC Wing Magic's Louisiana Roux MH and Santa Fe's Contender Tyra MH. These two have produced 19 puppies competing in AKC Field Trials and Hunting Tests, including seven Master Hunters.
Congratulations to Bill, Micki and Ammo! We're looking forward to watching you run. |
WHAT'S YOUR DOG WORTH? | |
In a recent article in OutdoorLife, Brian Lynn reports that a jury recently awarded a man $145,000 for his dog when it was shot dead while on the hunt.
Of the total, the dog was deemed to be worth $10,000 with the remainder being paid due to personal injury, destruction of property and punitive damages.
You can read the full article here. |
HEATSTROKE | |
Heatstroke is defined as having a temperature of 105F (or higher), excessive panting, hyperventilation, increased salivation, dry gums that become pale, grayish and tacking, rapid or erratic pulse, weakness, confusion, inattention, vomiting, diarrhea and possible rectal breeding.
If you think your dog is suffering from heatstroke, you should: - Get the dog into the shade
- Apply cool (not cold) water to the inner thighs, stomach and foot pads
- Use running water; do not submerge your dog as this could cool the dog too rapidly
- Don't cover the dog
- Keep the dog moving slowly
- Offer small amounts of cool water to drink, no performance drinks!
- Get to your vet who will check for kidney and/or liver damage and DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulopathy) which can occur hours or days later.
