NEW NATIONAL AMATEUR CHAMPION | |
Meet this year's National Amateur Champion, five and a half year old NAFC-FC Texas Troubador, owned by John & Martha Russell, Jr., handled by Martha. 103 dogs started the event. After 10 series, the competition was down to 20 dogs with a combined total of 1580 All-Age points.
 | NAFC Texas Troubador |
Martha and Tubb have been a team since he was a pup. Last week that strong bond paid off. In eight days of competition, Tubb picked up 26 birds on land and in water.
- All-Age Points: 77
- Open Points: 26.5
- Amateur Points: 50.5
- All-Age Wins: 11
- Derby Points: 24
- Derby List: 20 months
- Derby Wins: 3
- National Qualifier: 5x
- National Finalist: 2x
- # Pups on 2014 Derby List: 4
Tubb's parents are strong too. In fact his whole pedigree is impressive and stacked with national champions.
Bred by Ken & Brenda Neil, Tubb's father is FC-AFC Weezer Retreezer (a 10x National qualifier and 7x National finalist). And his mother is NFC-AFC Candlewood's Somethingroyal (herself a National Champion who was also qualified for this year's National Amateur, 15x National qualifier and 7x National finalist).
(Fun fact: Windy and Tubb are one of only two mother-son National Champs we know of! The other was NFC-AFC Euroclydon and her son NFC-AFC Dynamite Duke.)
Both John and Martha have strong records as handlers. In 2003, John's dog, NAFC-FC Adams Acres Cherokee Rose, won the National Amateur. The Russells are now the third couple in history to each win a National. The other two are John and Laura Parrott and Mac and Lynne DuBose.
Congratulations to John, Martha and Tubb! We're looking forward to watching you run.
