Vancouver Yoga Center Newsletter

SW Washington's Premier Yoga Center & School
Vancouver Yoga Center

Greetings!

Spring has finally sprung. The energy and enthusiasm is picking back up again. People are out in their gardens, getting back into outdoor recreation, and getting motivated to open to new spaces in their yoga practices.

I have been busy in search of a illustrator for the Yoga Therapy book i have been writing. I have not had any luck finding anyone who can follow through with the project from beginning to end. If anyone knows of an artist that can draw anatomy please have them get in touch with me.

Since the book is on hold we have begun working on the videos series. And because these are going to be Yoga Therapy videos i am trying to use students as models to demonstrate the various alignment points and poses to correct. I am still looking for a good candidate for low back issues and also someone else for upper back/neck. Let me know if you would be willing to be on camera for the world to see :)

I have been so busy with training programs and other projects i haven't taught any advanced practice workshops for a while. Students were asking for them so they are back on the schedule. See below for more information.

Lastly check out our new studio webpage and yoga school webpage.

I am very excited about the growing health resources page on the website. If you can think of anything valuable to add please let me know.

Always seeking to learn and grow. Any feedback for me or the studio on how we can better serve you and grow ourselves, please send in your feedback at the reply to this newsletter.

Backbends - Unleashing your Wild Heart!

Join us Saturday June 1st 12-3pm $45 - pre-registration required

We spend the majority of our lives moving forward and bending over, but not back. Backbends are key and essential to a healthy spine. In this workshop we will take time to deeply open and warm up the body before diving into what makes it so hard to bend backwards. Alignment and theory will be touched on along with ample time to play and explore deeper variations of backbends.

Core, Inversion & Arm Balances - Dancing with Lila

Join us Saturday July 6th12-3pm $45 - pre-registration required

When you hear inversions or arm balances you either get very excited or very scared. We will simplify these seemingly hard poses and cultivate the strength that is required in mind and body to play and have fun with what i call the cocktail party poses. This group of yoga poses can be fun, inspiring, empowering, energizing and a great opportunity to not take yourself so seriously but have fun and play(the sanskrit word is Lila)!

Hip openers, forward bends and twists - Tune in to reveal out

Join us Saturday August 3rd 12-3pm $45  - pre-registration required

We will explore sweet and deep stretches with ways in which to work the hips and pelvis in subtle ways that give big relieve many times freeing our hamstrings and lower spine at the same time. This class of yoga poses can be very calming on our nervous system and lend themselves well to discharging stress an aiding in contemplation.

Becoming the Teaching
By Matthew Zorn

Today I am going to discuss a teaching that is attributed to Buddha. He once said, "One day both the teacher and student pass away and only the teaching remains." The truth is all things that have birth will experience death or dissolution back to its original state. This goes for all the people you idolize and love, including yourself. This is not pessimistic thinking, it is the way of things (the Tao). Being okay with the natural order and process of life is one of the first steps to reclaiming your peace. Embracing the "real" amidst the transient will help you with this process..........
