Greetings!

Its hard to believe that the holiday season is soon approaching us and this wonderfully sunny summer season is soon shifting into that darker more reflective time. At the studio we are shifting inward by bringing back Dr. Zorn this fall and winter to offer reflective heart centered and mind provoking lectures and guided meditations.

You can see his schedule below along with a introductory piece into the work he is doing at the Center. Look for more of his writings in the future newsletters and on our blog.

We are wrapping up this last session of classes and will begin a new series starting  October 29th. I'm looking forward to seeing some faces i haven't seen in a while as people move from the outdoor season back indoors and back to their yoga practice again.

I have been very busy with the start of a new Teacher Training program along with the start of a new program this year called Yoga as Structural Therapy. This new project is a serious passion of mine and ties in all my studies of the human body and how it moves and functions. The intent of the course and the work within it is to teach yoga teachers and bodyworkers(Massage Therapist, Physical Therapists, etc), how to more deeply look at patterns in the body that lead to imbalance and pain. Then with that knowledge how to use a yoga practice and some specific hands on work to unwind that pattern and restore people back to health, pain free and balance.

This year in both courses i am blessed to have such a great group of educated and enthusiastic people. In this course and in the past courses i have been lucky to have school teachers/professors, massage therapists, physical therapists, counselors, yoga teachers from other styles, and many others who have help me learn as well and develop these courses to the highest caliber. I am very honored that these people trust in me to guide them in their learning. What a gift and blessing!

Next year i will offer these programs again. One course starting in January and one in September. If you are interested please let me know by mid December. Call or email for more information.

Along with the design of this new program i have been working throughout the year on a book for yoga students on using yoga to help with alignment issues that lead to pain patterns. Still trying to dream up a good name for it. Maybe, "Yoga Therapy for common aches and pains"? Any suggestions would be welcomed. I will be closing the studio the last week of December over the Holidays to hopefully wrap up my end of the work on this project and hand it off to the editor, illustrator, photographer and layout and publishing person. I am also so blessed to have so many talented students, that all the folks helping me with this project are tied into our yoga community here. I am grateful to have such good support and much enthusiasm from these folks on this project. Thanks for the belief in me and this body of work!

After the book project i will be working on a set of Yoga Therapy videos relating to each part of the body.  Needles to say i will be busy and gathering my focus this season. Wish me luck :)

Come say hi and to our other wonderful teachers here at the studio. We have added a Prenatal class on Tuesday evenings, gentle/restorative yoga on friday evenings and 2 great sunday yoga classes one in the am and one in the early afternoon that are perfect for building back your reserves for the week ahead.

See you soon,

Fundamentals of Meditation
By Matthew Zorn

Meditation in its simplest form is purely concentration or focus turned back in on its source. We all meditate through the day. Any action you engage in requires some form of concentration. Whether it is reading, eating, driving, or working you

are using some level of focus to accomplish your task. Meditation is unique in that when you are

meditating you are actively engaged in Being, not "doing" or activity. Furthermore, any tool you use to help you meditate must be seen as a stepping stone. At some point all techniques and tools must be given up, otherwise you are not truly in the natural state of meditation.

When I tell people that I teach classes on meditation, the most common question I get is," What type of meditation do you teach?" The simple answer is the natural type. I say this because my concern is that

people will use the label of the type of meditation or techniques as something to identify with and hold onto. This in its self will become an obstacle when trying to meditate. The natural state of meditation is beyond techniques, beliefs, concepts, mental activity, attachments, and egocentric self-centeredness. There is infinite freedom in Being that is clean and clear of all these things.

This meditation fundamentals class will focus on what I have learned through the 20 or so years I have been meditating. We will discuss the importance of meditation, the goal of meditation, and specific ways to approach meditation and the mind. We will also discuss some very effective tools that I have found useful when meditating and dealing with the mind.

This class will also have 2 practice meditation sessions. This is because meditation is where all you have read and learned will come to fruition. If all the teachings you have heard and read about are a map, meditation is the airplane trip to the actual destination.

                  Let us explore fearlessly!
