ODW Logistics announces job growth

ODW will double in size over the next three years

 

ODW Logistics & Transportations Services (LTS), a leading provider of transportation management services, announced plans to hire 40 people over the next three years, which will bring their total number of employees to 77. The company originally was started in Hamilton's business incubator and currently operates out of One Renaissance Center in downtown Hamilton. 

 

ODW LTS has experienced significant growth since it was established in 2009 and was named one of Inc. Magazine's Fast 500 in 2013 as one of the fastest growing companies in the United States. It was on the Cincinnati Business Courier's Fast 55 list again in 2015. Because the company projects continued fast-paced growth, they partnered with JobsOhio, REDI Cincinnati, and the City of Hamilton for assistance on their next phase of growth. Construction underway at 150 High St. 

The former Elder Beerman department store is being transformed into office and retail space

 

150 High Street is undergoing a major renovation to prepare for new tenants. The former department store has been vacant since 2009 and will be the new home for STARTEK Hamilton, Joslin Diabetes Center, Jackson's Market and Deli, and InsideOut Studio. STARTEK Hamilton will employ 682 people at the new call center when fully operational. STARTEK is slated to move into the building in July and the other tenants will be moving in soon after. The renovation is being financed by the Hamilton CORE Fund and LCNB Bank. 2014 Economic Development Annual Report

8 projects resulted in 335 new jobs and $83 million in capital investment

 

The City of Hamilton's Economic Development Annual Report for 2014 is now available. There was significant growth in the health care, advanced manufacturing, and logistics industries. The city's newly revamped business incubator The Hamilton Mill experienced a significant amount of activity and a number of downtown projects were announced or completed. The report also summarizes the significant infrastructure projects underway in Hamilton that will have important economic development consequences. To view the report, click here.

Downtown businesses launch Alive After 5

Monthly event encourages people to enjoy downtown after hours


A committee of downtown business owners has initiated an event the first Thursday of every month that encourages businesses to stay open from 5 pm to 9 pm for people to come and enjoy downtown Hamilton. Businesses host music, activities, and specials during the event. Over 500 people participated in the first event, which was June 4th. The next event is Thursday July 2nd and the theme is Summer Blockbusters. For more information, like Alive After 5 on Facebook page here.

CORE Fund begins efforts on Main Street

CORE Fund acquires buildings on Main Street

 

As activity downtown increases with investments such as that of STARTEK and Community First Solutions, the Hamilton CORE Fund is moving efforts towards Main Street.  The CORE Fund has acquired the 6 building block in the 200 block of Main Street known as Porcellana, 139 Main Street, and 310-312 Main Street. The goal is to stabilize the properties and work to find developers, owners, and tenants to partner with to complete the projects. High St. Cafe opens downtown

Restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch

 

High St. Cafe held their grand opening on June 29th. The new downtown restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch and have a general store that is open until 5 p.m. seven days a week. Shop Hop event deemed a success

6 small businesses banded together for a shop local event

 

6 small retailers in Hamilton - Front Room on 7th, Secretly Shabby, Your Homely Sister, Sara's House, Hearts of Hope, and Art Off Symmes - came together to put on a shopping event on Saturday May 2nd called Shop Hop. Each store had sales, refreshments, and if you visited all 6 stores you were entered for a chance to win a $150 shopping spree. The event had a great turnout and the retailers hope to have another Shop Hop in the fall. First residential tenants move into Artspace

The first 14 tenants have moved in

 

Construction on the residential units of Artspace Hamilton has been completed and the first 14 tenants have moved in. The building has 42 units total. Construction continues on the commercial spaces and is projected to be completed in August. An art gallery space for tenants, The Almond Sisters bakery, and Renaissance Fine Art Supplies will be moving into the High Street level commercial spaces. Liferay announces new partnership with Red Hat

Partnership will deliver integrated open source technologies

 

Liferay, maker of the enterprise, open source Liferay Portal,  announced a collaboration with Red Hat to deliver to enterprises an integrated, comprehensive and open source portal solution that brings together the performance and agility of Liferay Portal and Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (JBoss EAP). The companies plan to collaborate across engineering, sales, and marketing groups. An early customer is Toyota, which chose the solution to power its Toyota Owners site, which features customized services and essential tools for customers. Liferay's national sales office is located in downtown Hamilton. Vora Ventures wins Tech Company of the Year

Vora Ventures won at the 2015 Innovation and Technology Awards

  

The Cincinnati Business Courier recognized the winners of the fifth annual Innovation and Technology Awards ceremony held on Tuesday, April 28 at the historic Memorial Hall in downtown Cincinnati. The awards honor businesses and individuals that have helped fuel the region's economy through new ideas and approaches. This year, Vora Ventures was honored to receive the "2015 Tech Company of the Year" award. Vora Ventures is associated with Vora Technology Park in Hamilton. Three new startups joined The Hamilton Mill

NewKnowledge United (NKU), Wraith Games, and RelaxaLights are now at The Hamilton Mill

 

NKU and Wraith compete in the digital marketplace - Wraith Games is geared towards the independent gaming market and NKU is in the corporate eLearning market. RelaxaLights is smart and immersive furniture geared towards children. The introduction of these three companies brings the number of clients at The Mill to fourteen and positions the organization for even more success going forward.

The Hamilton Mill was recognized as a finalist at the Greater Ohio Policy Center Summit whose theme was "Restoring Neighborhoods, Strengthening Economies". The Mill was a finalist for the "Catalytic Partnership Award", in which communities are strengthened when sectors work together to meet common goals for sustainable development. The partnership between The Hamilton Mill and the City of Hamilton, and the Hamilton CORE Fund was the model that was recognized at the Summit. For more on the award and the Summit click here.

 

kW River's Paul Kling was among the top 20 "People to Know" in the green business and energy industries as recognized by the Cincinnati Business Courier. kW River is a Hamilton Mill client  working to implement their micro-hydroelectric turbine in the Great Miami River. kW River's device is patented technology that is deployable on low-head dams throughout North America and internationally. In the United States alone there are over 70,000 low head dams that could be sites for deployment of the device. For the full release click here. 

Hamilton Utilities Efficiency Smart program off to successful start

Hamilton customers have already made upgrades projected to save $879,529

 

The City of Hamilton's comprehensive energy efficiency program, Efficiency Smart, is off to a successful start since its launch on February 3, 2015. During the first four months of the program, Hamilton electric customers have already saved 485 mega-watt hours (MWh) through the implementation of energy efficiency upgrades. Total Lifetime Customer Savings from these upgrades is calculated to be $820,986 for commercial customers and $58,543 for residential customers, for a Total Lifetime Customer Savings of $879,529 for all Hamilton electric customers. 

 

The annual fee, paid by the Electric System, for the Efficiency Smart Program is $793,000. In other words, after only four months of operation, the Customer Lifetime Savings has already exceeded the first year's annual fee for the Program.

 

Efficiency Smart provides technical assistance and financial incentives, which allow for the implementation of energy-saving improvements, to Hamilton's residential, commercial, and industrial electric customers. For more information about the services and financial incentives available to customers through Efficiency Smart, visit the website here or call 877-889-3777.


 

 

Hamilton Utilities signs first CNG customer

Rumpke has signed contract to use the City's public CNG fueling station

 

Hamilton Utilities recently announced Rumpke, Inc. as its first contract compressed natural gas (CNG) customer for service at the City's new public CNG fueling station located at 2220 S. Erie Blvd.

 

Based upon negotiations, Rumpke will receive a discounted rate on its purchase of CNG at the Hamilton fueling station. This discount equals 10% to 25% off the standard CNG price, currently set at $1.99 per GGE (gasoline gallon equivalent), based upon the volume of CNG that Rumpke uses in a month. There is also a minimum "take-or-pay" requirement, wherein Rumpke is required to purchase a minimum amount or will pay a minimum charge per month. Under the terms of the agreement, Rumpke will be required to use a minimum of over 2,600 GGE per month. Additionally, the proposed agreement with Rumpke is for one year, with the option for the parties to extend.

Program highlight: Design Assistance Program

Program changes go into effect August 1st


The Design Assistance Program will be amended effective August 1st, 2015. The most significant change is that instead of a $2,500 grant, the grant amount will cover the cost of professional architectural/technical services up to 5% of the total project investment.
