Two Great Opportunities to help NKTA this week!
Please donate via the Kitsap Great Give Tuesday May 5th:
NKTA is trying to acquire a key trail corridor this year, part of completing a major trail connection from the Kingston Ferry to the Port Gamble Trails.
A major NKTA goal is to establish the Sound to Olympics Trail (STO) connecting North Kitsap communities. The STO will connect the Hood Canal Bridge to both Kingston and Winslow/Bainbridge Island, adding major links to the cross-state trail system. We've seen great progress acquiring open space along the route; first 534 acres saved on the Port Gamble Shoreline, then last December the North Kitsap Heritage Park nearly doubled in size. Just last week Great Peninsula Conservancy celebrated a major acquisition along Grovers Creek, across from the North Kitsap Heritage Park. All of these are key pieces along the Sound to Olympics Trail, moving us closer to linking Kingston/Indianola to Port Gamble via trails.
This June NKTA is trying to acquire another important trail connection. Please consider donating to help us acquire this corridor. And how about this: The nonprofits you donate to will actually receive more money than you donate! All donations made on May 5 will help your favorite nonprofits gain a share of the bonus pool and/or prizes donated by our Sponsors. $100 donated by you can become $115 to $120 to the nonprofits you've chosen.

Update on Port Gamble Trail Closures for Timber Thinning
There's a new map on the timber thinning up in Port Gamble and except for the area completely closed for Commercial Thinning, most trails are open on the weekends. But be careful, thinning means they are actively cutting trees to create enough room and light for the other trees to keep growing, so there may be trees down on the trails.
Keep your eye on the thinning map: 1200, Ankle Biter & Downhell are completely closed, but 1000 is now back open on the weekends.

Here's a picture of the Commercial thinning. |
