Dear Parents,
The presentation and resources I shared with parents at last Monday's SBA meeting have been posted to our school's main webpage. If you have additional questions, please let me know.
This Monday from 9-10 am, we will hold a Digital Learning Environment (DLE) Overview for Parents in the media center. Mrs. Browning and I will share about the DLE, including digital citizenship lessons being taught to students. We will also take a look at some of the ways iPads are being used in school. We will provide all parents an electronic summary of our meeting at the end of that week.
The K-2 Hendrie Ave. playground construction is done but required the wood chips to be added by the Parks Department. This is scheduled for Tuesday (the earliest possible day) and the playground will be opened soon after that. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we install these wonderful new pieces of equipment that the students and community will enjoy using.
A reminder as you prepare child and adult costumes for the Boo Bash: No weapons of any kind, real or fake, including martial arts type weapons (or any types of swords) are allowed at school events, including the Boo Bash. Also, an early reminder that scary costumes, masks that cover the face, and/or simulated blood, etc. on a child or adult costume are not permitted at any time.
Please remember that all parents need to stop at the front desk (or stop in the office if no one is at the front desk) if they are dropping something off or need to pick up a child. Parents cannot go to the classroom in these situations. We will have the item brought to the classroom, or if picking up, have the child sent to the office. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Christopher Weiss
Principal

GREEN COMMITTEE
Thank you to our Green Volunteers! This week, the Green Committee taught our children how to reduce, reuse and recycle materials from their lunches. Please help encourage the habit by recycling at home, and during lunch duty please read the posted materials on recycling to help the children decide how to dispose of their lunch items. Small changes can make a big difference!

RIVERSIDE GARDEN - WATCH IT GROW!
Thank you to all who turned out for our first ever garden sale! It was a great success. Several of our classrooms spent time harvesting many herbs and vegetables earlier this week. At our garden sale, we had samplings of carrots, basil, oregano, green beans, sage, and more. Many more herbs and vegetables are still growing and we look forward to presenting our next batch very soon. All proceeds from the garden sale go back into maintaining the Riverside Garden.
Thank you for your support!

RIVERSIDE RYTHMS
On Friday, October 9th the Riverside Rhythms program welcomed singer, guitarist Rick Reyes. Rick played Hispanic songs to celebrate Hispanic heritage month, as well as other familiar favorites during all lunch sessions. The children loved his performance, with many students dancing and singing along.
This program is made possible due to your generous support of the PTA.

ARTS IN ED
This week the 5th Grade participated in writing workshops led by Donato D'Albis, a Yale lecturer who teaches the craft of writing. The students wrote short stories about a memorable moment in their life. Mr. D guided the 5th graders to use their five senses in the short story, as well as use a dynamic and descriptive vocabulary, and build a strong conclusion to connect with the reader.
This program is sponsored by the Riverside PTA
