Parents are invited to write a letter, addressed to me, regarding class placements for next year. I ask that you focus on your child's needs, both academic and social. You may not request a specific teacher.
The information you provide will be shared with staff and will be one of several criteria considered as we develop class lists for the new school year. Please note that email will not be accepted for this purpose.
The deadline, no exceptions, for this letter will be Wednesday, May 6.
This Thursday will be our Poetry Picnic & "Poem in your Pocket" Day
This Thursday will be "Poem in your Pocket Day" when we also hold our annual "Poetry Picnic" during your child's lunch shift on the front lawn. Students should find a great poem to read or write one of their own. Parents are welcome to join their child during his/her lunch shift on May 7. The rain date is May 8.

This will also be our PTA General Meeting so we hope many will come out to hear the latest PTA updates and learn about Schoology and Google Drive, two key platforms being used by students at Riverside in grades 2-5 (parents of students at all grade levels are welcome).

Enjoying the larger parking spaces?
We were able to make our new parking spaces wider now that spring has arrived. We also are thankful to the district for the wider front sidewalk (with the addition of the beautiful bricks). The last section will be completed soon.
"Walk This Way" is back!
Starting Monday, we are launching our "Walk This Way" initiative to encourage a better environment. We would encourage students (if it is safe to do so) to either walk or ride their bikes to school, or to carpool or ride the bus (if eligible) at least 10 times a month for May and June.
Important News about the Art Department
Mrs. Jacobson has announced her retirement as our art teacher after serving our community with beautiful art and a joyful spirit for over 30 years. We wish her all the best in her retirement at the end of the year! Additionally, Ms. Jalil (our part-time Art teacher) has accepted a full time art position at Central Middle School for next year. We thank her for her wonderful work with our students as well. We are now embarking on a district process to select art teachers to fill these positions for next year.
